I've been thinking about why I've been feeling such disproportionate frustration with trying to find something to wear to my friend's wedding in Las Vegas, and I realized that what I think is appropriate for the occasion is bling. But I am not blingy. I can pull off casual, fun, whimsical, businesslike, practical, somber, even attempt some sophisticated glamour. But blingy is not me. In fact, it is probably the anti-me. I don't wear jewelry other than my watch and wedding ring most days; I don't like stuff that's too bombshell in fit, or too bare overall in an explicitly sexy way. If I ever do wear something that's a touch blingy, I have to balance it out with another item that's more casual, classic, or androgynous.

Do you have a style or vibe that is so far from your personality or preferences that you feel like you can't even pull it off? Or do you like 'playing a role' on occasion?
