What I wore: skirts, dresses, & leggings

Since the weather turned warm, I have been wearing a *lot* of skirts and dresses. I am just posting selections from the past few weeks, but you can see more here if you are curious.

I'm particularly interested in feedback on the last two looks with leggings since all of you convinced me to keep trying this look, and this was my first time trying leggings in public EVER. As a reminder, the teal dress is the only dress or skirt I have that ends at mid-thigh, so I am really trying to make leggings work with longer skirt lengths since that is all that I own.

Thursday 5/21: Denim pencil skirt, black blouse with white polka dots, black ruffled vest, cream flower pin, and off white pumps.

Friday 5/22: Navy pencil skirt, mint green printed knit top, brown pumps, yellow cross-body bag, two turquoise necklaces.

Saturday 5/23: Red blouse, white Boden print skirt, Clarks Brulee sandals, yellow crossbody bag. The skirt actually inspired me to paint a mug that matched the print - we'll see how it turns out after it's glazed.

Tuesday 5/26: Mexx printed dress, white pinstriped cap-sleeve blazer, off-white pumps. I do need to hem the dress a bit.

Wednesday 5/27: White ruffly blouse, navy pencil skirt, gray tights, brown knee-length boots (yes, I got cold again) and featuring a cloche hat that I just picked up. I want to try to wear it this summer without looking silly or frumpy.

Thursday 5/28: Leggings attempt #1 - Royal blue button-down blouse, denim pencil skirt with skinny belt, black zipper leggings, Me Too Swanns.

Today (Saturday 5/30): Leggings attempt #2 - Teal faux-wrap dress, black leggings, coral silk flats.

Kari,

All great looks! You have done a wonderful job of accessorizing and I love you in the pencil skirts.

Great job with the leggings! My favorite is the teal dress and leggings. I love the color combination of the teal dress and coral flats. It looks wonderful with the leggings! Now you have to get out of the house and show it off!

The teal dress with leggings looks great - a good length and volume for the leggings. I like it better than the pencil skirt actually.

I also really like your Thursday polka dot based outfit - black and white and nude looks very spring-y despite being based on black.

Friday is sooo lovely and your hair looks great! Actually, you looked great pretty much every day and I am totally smitten with that yellow bag. I have a weak spot for yellow bags and I totally want a crossbody right now too, so this one just made me weep a little.

The only one I'm not sure of is the skirt with leggings. The leggings just seem a little like an afterthought. They somehow just don't seem to work as a cohesive part of the outfit. I know the idea is going to make everyone cringe, but I wonder if a mini or shorter-than-usual skirt would be better. Just like leggings make a too-short dress okay, maybe they will work the same for a skirt. In fact, I think I may try that out tomorrow myself (I happen to be a big fan of mini skirts, but I know I'm young and in the minority on this one). But, perhaps I am the only one who feels that way. I'll await Angie's authoritative input :)

I still love them with the teal dress (and the outfit overall), and will not allow you to toss it!

First off before I forget, you found a cloche hat! Great haircut, too!

Kari, I really like all of your outfits, including the leggings ones. I will comment in more detail later.

Ok, I'm back.

I really like what you did with polka dots, vest and playing up the white with a flower pin. This also reminds me that I need to get my hands on a polka dot pattern :)

The Boden skirt outfit is FAB all around.

I'm vicariously enjoying your new yellow bag. Have fun!

I'm still pretty timid about pattern mixing, so I'm taking mental notes here, and would like to hear what others think. I'm always wondering whether it's possible to combine pinstripes and another pattern. Great dress pattern, too.

The teal dress and leggings outfit looks very fun and comfy.

Kari - love the colors, textures, patterns throughout. I esp like the yellow bag and the red and white skirt. And you look really great in leggings. I like them better with the dress than the skirt but the skirt/legging combo isn't bad either.

I am so, so glad to have at least one leggings look that works. They were very comfortable with the teal dress - usually with that dress I feel very self-conscious about potential wardrobe malfunctions because it is so short, but leggings made me feel much more secure (not to mention warmer.) Thanks to all of you for encouraging me to keep trying and to give the teal dress another chance. Debora, I'm glad that the teal and coral worked together without seeming too "Christmas-y."

I realized that I do have two more dresses that are above the knee: this jumper and this printed dress. I'm not sure that either will work with leggings, but may try them later this week.
I know some of you also advised to hem the Mexx printed dress (from Tuesday) to mid-thigh so it would work with leggings, but I'm worried that it would make the dress inappropriate to wear on its own. I'd have to pick the length very carefully.

Lena and Sihaya, I love the Boden skirt. (I am glad that I ordered it - so comfortable!) I don't know what it is about this summer, but I just want to break out everything that is bold and bright like never before.

Chris and Lena, I appreciate the feedback on the polka dot outfit. I had a lot of fun putting together that one, and I think that the light accessories were key to not looking too wintery - but I could also see myself trying the same outfit in fall with tights and boots.

Maya, thanks for the hair compliment! I just got it cut, but I think I am going to get the bangs trimmed about an inch shorter.

KILLER haircut. KILLER cross-body bag. KILLER week of style. Life is good with the BEST Seattle weather to boot! YOU ARE THERE, my dear. THERE!

Well done, Kari. You look beautiful and flawlessly polished every day. LOVE both leggings outfits. Big fat hug! You have done me proud :0) *huge sigh of joy*

Taylor, Devin, and Angie, your exuberant feedback gave me a huge smile. You are all so kind! Angie, you and this forum have been drawing me out my comfort zone bit by bit over the past several months, and I am having such a blast trying out new (to me) styles. I can't say how much I appreciate all of the women on the forum who have helped me "push the envelope" through encouragement and example.

Kari your new haircut looks great! Am loving your yellow bag too!!

The new patterned dress really looks great on you. Shortening it just a smidge will make it 10/10.

And good job on the leggings outfits. They are looking great!!!

Every outfit every single day shines fabulously kari! You are such an inspiration. That Boden skirt calls my name every time I see it. Must resist. You seem like you are having so much fun with it :-)

I can't even pick just one, because every day you raised the bar higher. That Boden skirt is wonderful, I LOVED both leggings looks, and the pattern-mixing came out great (the pinstripe jacket and Mexx dress was my favorite). FABULOUS week. FABULOUS.

Tam and Kristen, I'm glad that the Mexx dress got high marks minus the current length! I was super glad to find it. I have a hard time finding dresses that fit very well/look good from all angles, so I hope that I find a good, versatile hemming length.

Niva, the Boden skirt truly is fun... I'm trying very hard not to be an enabler here, but I do think that you would wear it well. ;)
