Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

What I wore & experimenting with Angie's blog topics...

Angie's blog is always inspiring me to try new trends and I have been experimenting trying to make some of them work on me:

1. Cascading Cardigan - this is the one at BR. I like this length better than some of the longer ones out there that tend to overwhelm my petite frame but I found this particular one a little boxy on me. I think it's because it doesn't really cascade - it's actually cut straight across. Has anyone seen ones of similar length that cascade better?

2. Cargo Capris - I'm trying to find a pair to replace last years which are too big on me now. I tried on a pair at AT loft and found them too long on me (even in petites) - they hit right at midcalf.

Here's one that I tried on at Anthropologie. I really like the length but I don't really like the banded hem.

Oh and here's what I wore shopping. I am looking for a cropped short sleeve navy cardigan which I think would be more flattering than this bolero (which is a bit too short). Yikes, I didn't realize how wrinkled my jeans were by the end of a long day of driving and walking around!

The cascading cardi looks fab on you shana! Also love the orange top you're sporting with the yellow cargo capris. Orange is an awesome color for you! I know what you mean about the Anthro capris, maybe you could fold up the hem a tad if you like how it fits and feels? I love your shopping outfit, the floral top is so summery!

Sounds like you had a fun time trying different looks! I think the cardi looks nice on you, but I know what you mean by the boxiness; I rejected a few open-front cardigans for that reason. Here are a few you might consider:

(If you couldn't tell, I like Splendid cardis and tops; they're really nicely done)

I totally empathize with your search for proper length cargo capris; I'm 5'3" and I have a hard time too. As a matter fact, I tried on that very pair of Anthro ones the other day! I think they look cute on you :)

I find a lot of open cardigans are more just open-front and therefore boxy, as opposed to cascading. That said, I love the color of the BR one on you.

I am terrible at helping with capris and clams lengths, but I thought that outfit was adorable. And I LOVED your shopping outfit!

Shana, I like the BR cardigan a lot. I may have to give that one a try. I'm 5'0" so this is also a trend that is difficult. Did you try the BR cargos?

Your shopping outfit: I have the same ATL blouse! I don't think that cardigan you are wearing is too short. I wear similar cropped cardis with mine, in plum and in citron. I also wear it with a purple or white short-sleeve jacket. I was thinking that a baby blue cardigan would be cute with it too, but I'm not really into pastels so much.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Niva, do you mean folding up the ATL capris? I like the length of the Anthro ones - I just don't really like the narrow cuffed bottom. Maybe I will start looking at regular (non-petite) cargo shorts.

CC - wow, I really like the 2nd one you posted! That would be perfect if it were to actually fit me. I bet the sleeves are too long though - this is why I avoid online shopping. Not easy when you are petite!

Kristen, thanks, I too love the color. You're right - this is just an open cardigan, not a cascading one. Given my body shape, I need the cascading one because the open ones just add bulk to my midsection.

Shiny, hmm, I didn't see the BR cargos. Need to check next time I am there. I bet this cardigan would look great on you since you are an hourglass and have better waist definition than me. BR has them in a slate gray, a taupe and a gorgeous muted cobalt blue. I saw a bunch of the gray & taupe ones at the BR at Copley Place and loads of the taupe & blue at Natick (Hubby has had a few interviews in Boston so I've been spending quite some time in area malls!).

Yes, I knew someone on the forum had that ATL blouse! Couldn't remember who! I love it even though it's a little boxy on me. I actually bought both colors at first but decided to return the orangish one. I think the bolero is O.K. but I think it would be a little more flattering on me if it was 2 inches longer. This one ends right at my bust line and with my undefined waist, I feel like overall it is a bit of a boxy look. I wish I had stocked up on cropped short sleeve cardis a few years ago when they were big - all I see are the boyfriend versions or poufy sleeve ones right now!

I haven't tried the cascading cardi look, so my eye is completely untrained - but I think this one looks great.
The Anthro capris look fine, but i agree about the hem. It must be hard finding the right length, since most of the cargo one don't lend themselves to alteration too well. The orange top is very pretty.
I really like your shopping outfit, and you look awesome in those white jeans. Are those BR? And the bolero looks great too.
Love the stroller action shot :) Today I was trying some jeans at Nordstrom and my daughter started howling in the fitting room (she must be about your son's age), so I had to drop everything and race out. My shopping days are officially over.

Shana, you are SO CUTE. And I’m tickled that you’re inspired by my blog posts.

Your shopping outfit is delish! Love you in white jeans! Did they grow during the day? (White is one of my favourite colours on you). Hope to see you in a white frock.

o The cascading cardi is lovely! It’s a good length on super petite you. Hope you get it. Looks really nice with white.

o Where is the banded hem on the capris? They fit well.
