The two most important items on my shopping list for Paris were scarves and Eric Bompard sweaters. 1986 trip to Paris was the height of the Hermes scarf, but I didn't buy one there. I've had a hard time finding scarves I like at home lately. I've read about Bompard sweaters on blogs and in Ines de La Fressange's book, but was reluctant to buy one online until I'd seen them in person.

We talked about buying an anniversary present such as a new watch for me, but in the end the trip was our present to ourselves.

Lucky for us we were there during the soldes--the semi-annual sales.

The first day we went to Galleries Lafayette and ended up buying two pairs of black Mephisto shoes in slightly different styles and a Picard briefcase for DH. (His old Mephisto walking shoes were killing his feet.)

Another day we went to Printemps and checked out the whole store, but ended up in the scarf department, where I wish we'd taken a photo. The selection was huge and I ended up buying 6, three of which I wore on the trip. Two wool/silk, one cotton, and there silk. After a year of looking i found polka dots (slightly fuzzy ones) that I liked.

On the last day we went to the Bompard store across the street from our hotel. The selection of colors was wonderful, but the ones that I liked best and will be more useful are in neutral colors. I was going to buy "the classic" navy V-neck, but as you can see, bought a light gray in a knit, a long blue (Torrent) V neck and a black with a design knit in. I also bought an animal print cashmere scarf. The blue was 5-ply, the black 4 I think, and the gray 2 ply. I wish we'd taken photos inside the store to give you a range of colors.

Between the sales and the VAT refund we did very well. I won't be wearing most of these items until next fall. You never know--we might get tickets to an outdoor concert on a chilly summer Bay Area evening.

I added the catalogue photos of the same items, substituting a lighter version for the black so you can see the knit. By the way, at home I am usually an M and was an M in all the sweaters I tried on.
