What does Fall style look like to you?

What is your autumn staple item/formula?
For me: tailored jeans, leather boots/booties and wool.

Color: cream.

Jewellery: gold.

Perfume: Van Cleef & Arpels' First.

(Although not today, as it is sweltering!)

Darker colors, tans, browns, golds, taupe, cognac and darker tan colors in booties and shoes. Usually too warm for tall boots until November. This month I pair my white jeans with taupe, gold, rusty reds, olive greens in place of the pastels, navy, grey, citron, etc. Mostly it is cooler in evenings so wear jeans more than in the summer months, more layering, long sleeved t's and sweatshirts. Don't have much in wool, except for ski socks, as it is mostly too warm in the daytime here for wool.

For me:

- jeans (summer is too hot for jeans here most of the time)
- booties and boots, but also oxfords and other closed-toe shoes
- rich colors like burgundy and plum
- layers
- leather jackets
- scarves start to appear
- textures become more interesting and varied (flannel, wool, denim, leather, suede)

For me - jeans, lightweight sweaters, blazers and boots/booties, scarves. Lots of neutrals (dark and light), jeweltones and some sour brights. Plaid and tweed and leather.

I'm stealing... crutcher's military jacket, AT's white jeans, Janet's scarf, Suja's cognac handbag, Mo's silky shirt. And I have an outfit!

Texstyle it's so true that it's in the Fall that we wear our hair down the most... since it's always so hot in the summer. Never thought of it before, as I grew my hair last year and am now experiencing it.

All answers are full of very good ideas!

Great thread Krish! Love the sound of your fall style. For me:

More moody colors - black, charcoal grey, and lots of dark red/burgundy.
More textures - primarily wool and cashmere.
Full length jeans - both BF and bootcut.
Booties, booties, booties.
Leather jackets - love busting these out again.
More jewelry - I tend to wear less in the heat - think big watches and big cuffs/bracelets.
Make up - dark red lipstick.

The boots get above the ankle and I wear orange-y pumpkin colours more. My tweedy trousers come out too. And the corduroy. Yes, corduroy!

Autumn for me means jeans, booties, and blazers. The colours vary, the styles vary, but those are the staples.

Pulling out more leather/ pleather pieces as it will be more wearable .( as long as the air conditioner stays fixed at work! Apparently it got hit by lightning and blew something last month . It was ooky-humid-hot and let's just say the dress code was "flexible" that week or so!) I'll be doing some black and white or cream outfits . Incorporate some fur vest outfits with denim.
I'm sort of drawn to "dark water" navy ,black and " Gardinia" winter-white/cream and charcoal gray for new pieces for fall winter. Last year I bought golds, Forest green and warm purple and orange-red. I may make some burgundy and some mixed green pieces too.

Fragrance wise I'm all over the place as usual. Krishnidoux have you ever tried Rumba by Balenciaga ? It was also done by Jean Claude Ellena ( he did First) it was another done in his maximalist phase. He's since moved on to be the in-house perfumer for Hermes . I'd also recommend trying Hermes Vetiver Tonka (I really like it ,very wearable in spring summer time) Ebay has samples available for around $13 usually ( 4 ml more like a mini).

ETA: Krishnadoux, I have one perfume I wear year round, but for the last couple of cold seasons I have also sometimes reached for Chloe. I definitely see some scents as better in the winter -- especially heavier, more romantic ones. It's interesting that you change your jewelry too. Do you wear silver tones in the warmer months?

Two layers instead of just one

Fall means I crave autumn tones, wool, tweed, boots. In reality, it is too warm for those things and autumn colors are not my best.
I welcome my jeans, booties and leather jackets, wear some chocolate brown and burnt orange, graphic tees under a blazer, light weight scarves.
When I switch over to a fall closet in late September, most of the color goes and I see mostly neutrals. I can no longer wear jewel tones near my face. Then I play with textures and monochrome neutral outfits. Last fall I wore nude and liked it. Early fall I tend to add dark accessories to brights like brown with bright pink. This year I plan to wear my bright pink and blush pink coats even more in October.

What it doesn't mean is traditional fall colors like orange, gold, and brown. But it does mean more dark colors like charcoal, black, burgundy purple. As to the types of pieces I wear, my favorites are sweaters and boots paired with jeans or other pants.

@Rachylou: Yes, corduroy is a Fall staples for me too. It just goes hand in hand with back to school and you need some around your legs while wading through crisp fallen leaves. What color is yours?
@Suz, love your formula. I can so much see you in it!
@Jennifer: Thank you so much for the perfume recommendations. Yes! I knew of - and loooove - Hermes Vetiver Tonka: didn't know it was made by the same designer. And will most certainly try Rumba. It's on my list now.
@Viva: I picture your formula with the great chic of slouchier items, for some reason... with the shirt untucked under the sweater, and sweter's hem sitting just on the hips or a bit higher. Am I close? I will try Chloe too. Yes, I tend to wear almost exclusively silver in the summer, as well as crafted jewelry; but in the Fall, I am a gold girl. Maybe because gold appears as "warm" to me.

@Joy, I very much like your outfit. It sounds like it has lots of movement, very energetic. I am curious what makes you unable to wear jewel tones near your face... is it hair color that does this? Pink shades for Fall! Yes! I love the idea of it.
@Susie: What makes you veer away from orange, gold, and brown? Is it because you have seen too much of it? Would you be willing to wear any of these colors separately?
@Sterling: I agree, comfort is number one in the Fall! I like that my Fall items tend to be a tad roomier, too. They are stiffer than summer pieces, so the still hold their shape even though they may not contour my body so closely.
@Laura: Sweater dresses! Yes! Had forgotten about those. They are so fun to wear, even more fun that summer dresses I think. Pattern tights are also something I, like you, look forward to be wearing.

Krish, jewel tones...deep red, teal, emerald, purple, do nothing for me. In fact they sort of drag me down, making me look tired or even sick. I love deep reds and teals to decorate my home. Now I need brighter and clear colors in a midtone for clothing though.

For me, fall is about neutrals and darker colors. And yes, it is the return of boot season! Yippee! And booties too.

I'm looking forward to wearing my jeans again, especially my coated skinnies, which are way too heavy a fabric to wear when it's warm.

I see that a few people have mentioned leather and pleather items. Yes, yes, yes.

I also really love replacing white with cream in fall.

We've had a really nice summer. Not too hot, not too cold. So I have had my fill of summer dressing—got to try out some new styles—but I am looking forward to changing the color palette.

My fall style is identical to my winter style - as they are one and the same thing - and also looks very similar to my summer style - except that the fall season is usually warmer than our summer season. I try to differentiate my fall style from my summer style by wearing deeper/darker colors, sometimes pulling out a bootie if it isn't too terribly hot - and carrying my black handbag and wearing black footwear.

For me, fall means:

- adding army green and burgundy to my usual black, grey and white
- jeans rather than denim shorts
- a return to ankle boots, after sandals all summer
- more than one layer on top (i.e., the option of a blazer, cardigan or sweater)
- less white
- less linen
- more texture
- tights (no more bare legs, waaaah)

For a less heavy scent, my standard daily Bottega Veneta, or possibly Estée Lauder Sensuous because of the woody elements.

My color palette is soft autumn, so I've got the colors colored. Love autumn!
