What do you wear to cook?

I was just wondering what the other members of the forum wear to cook dinner (or other meals). I often change out of my outfit-for-the-day when it is time to cook dinner because I can not be trusted to not spill or be splattered upon. Do you wear an apron? Other? Just curious.

I want to say...an apron and nothing else.

I suppose to be accurate, I would say my regular clothes, of course...which I cover with an apron.

I cook A LOT. Looooove to cook! I wear whatever I am wearing that day with slippers and GIGANTIC apron. I never mess on myself. Ever. It's my only super power - but comes in handy because I wear a lot of white.

Usually I change into comfortable, casual attire prior to cooking dinner (if I am not already dressed that way), and avoid anything white. If I am cooking for company and the evening's attire is dressier, I don an apron.

I always change to casual clothes and always wear an apron. I live in aprons at home and probably need to upgrade my collection - now I just grab anything on the hook, including some actually bought or made for my young daughters!

I wear an apron. Well, no, DH does all the cooking, and after I got him a number of chef's jackets he stopped wearing aprons. So now, I have LOTS of aprons. I wear them pretty much all the time at home since they have pockets that can hold my phone and since I don't dust they keep the dust and grime off my clothes so they save my laundry.

I wear whatever I am wearing for the day. Today I did remember to put an apron on, because I was wearing a cream silk blouse. I do often get stuff on myself though--I cook a lot of Indian food and there's a lot of sputtering in hot oil. Today I made pan fried okra and paneer with peas and fenugreek leaves.

Usually whatever I was wearing for the day, with an apron over it. On rare occasions when I'm wearing something nicer (silk blouse, etc.), I try to remember to change our of it first. It doesn't always happen...

I am also particularly negligent in dusting - so that resonated! But I also need my apron to save my clothes from getting wet while washing up - it is almost inevitable otherwise. (And sometimes happens even with the apron!)

Apron if cooking splattery food (like Raji. Love okra) Mine says "Queen of Everything."

I get filthy when I cook. So I sewed up a bunch of bib aprons and always have some in rotation. Pretty much every time I don't wear one, I spill something unremovable on my outfit.

Loungewear. Always. I can't deal with my clothes smelling like food (and I have a bloodhound's sense of smell) so the apron over regular clothes doesn't work for me unless I'm only like making a salad or something.

Apron. I have one from my late mum from the 50s with a gathered skirt -- it's quite something. I also have a bigger one.

Sometimes I neglect to put it on, but only if I am dressed very casually in easy washables.

I have a small collection of bib aprons that I wear when cooking and doing housework. They are best with pockets.

I don't like aprons. It's easy to change into a denim shirt for prep work and cooking/ baking.

I wish I had my grandmothers aprons. It's the only thing I regret giving away.

I love cooking, but I usually change clothes before I start. I'm neat when I cook, but I cannot say the same is true for the people around me. I often have helpers like my DS, or my DH. They can be unpredictable, so I never know when something may splash, spill or splatter.

I like to wear a simple old school tee shirt and jeans, or shorts if it's warm out. Easy to wash. No big loss if they get grease or tomato stains, etc.

I'm with Diana. I always change into loungewear because I cannot abide my clothes to pick up food odors. If company is over I will use an apron.

I try not to cook with anything that I wouldn't want to ruin because I have the opposite super power of Angie's - there is no cooking maneuver, no matter how simple, that won't end with myself splattered.

Yes to aprons. Suddenly I'm seeing a rash of high-end denim aprons for men. I'd like to think this is a sign that more gents are taking an interest in the domestic arts, and not just to wear at the BBQ.

Suz, now I want a giant ruffly '50's apron.

Approprio, I'v been noticing that denim look aprons similar to what you posted have been very popular on males and females at cafes. I really like them!

Hmm. Depends on the kind of cooking. If I'm wearing a silky blouse and I'm not gonna cheat my way through dinner prep with the microwave, I'll change out of that into something easier to wash and less prone to damage. If I'm really gonna cook up a storm, or do some heavy baking, then I'll don an apron.

...Lol. My super power is stating the obvious. For example, *You are reading!*, when you're reading (and would probably prefer I not talk, hehe). If only I had Angie's!

ps: My apron is a stiff canvas, a kind of periwinkle blue - solid and plain - with a nice big pocket and easily adjusted neck strap. I've been through a lot of aprons for aesthetic reasons. This is hilarious to me. Had one that had a button for a hand towel, which was brilliant. But it was in a toîle print and that irked my nerves...Heh...

I always change out of my work clothes into either casual or lounge clothes when I get home. But when I cook I usually over whatever I am wearing with an apron. The system seems to work for me.

I usually change clothes and wear an apron, an oversized apron. When I'm entertaining I try to pick an outfit with clothing that is washable and wear an apron.

Usually my yoga pants and a tee-shirt. Though I'm sure my husband would love to see me in the kitchen in a nice dress and some strappy heels. Maybe I'll surprise him one day...

I don't change to cook but I do usually change from work clothes to casual when I get home. That not because I'm cooking though - it's just to be more comfortable. I wear whatever I'm already wearing to cook and rarely use an apron. I'm like Angie - I never spill or mess on myself (but that's not my superpower - my superpower is always picking the slowest line at Wal-Mart).
