I bought it at the end of last summer and didn't get a chance to wear it because the weather didn't play along. I would like to start wearing it as soon as possible but first must see my tailor to alter the straps and perhaps the bodice.

The straps are way too long for me (pic 1). Do you think taking these wide straps off and replacing them with thinner ones or perhaps even a halter would be better? I feel like a 1950's nurse in this style ...

Re. the bodice: it needs to be taken in, you can see the excess fabric bunching around the belt. Is that a difficult (e.g. costly) alteration? The bodice is also too long, however if pulled up by shortening the straps, the bodice almost cuts under my arms. Can this be fixed somehow? I can hide that the end of the bodice doesn't sit on my natural waist by wearing a wide belt, so does it even make sense to alter this, since YLF'ers in general do not prefer self belts with dresses?

And finally, the color? Because the dress is cotton i feel like I'm wearing a white sheet made into a dress! What do you think? Does it look like something made out of bed linen?
Since it's more than 90% cotton dying it shouldn't be a problem, so another color is also an option.

TIA for your advice!
