Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

What do you all think of this shirt?

I like the light green color of this shirt, and I think it would be cute with the white short sleeve cardigan I ordered and possibly a belt and clamdiggers. I'm considering it for one of my summer tops, but it could probably go into the fall here as well:

Not your style?

I like it Ana! I'm not a big fan of florals and patterns in general but for some reason I am drawn to the floral prints on the J. Crew site. I think they look fresh, feminine and modern. The colours are great and the cut of the shirt is good too, it's fitted and has elbow length sleeves, which I know you like (I do too) and it would suit you methinks.

A little off topic: I only vaguely knew J. Crew before I found YLF, but loved their styles immediately and today I just received my first order from them (the ruffled cardigan in navy). It's a bit more light-weight than I expected, but that's not a problem, and it fits perfectly. I'm so glad. Fingers crossed that the two skirts on back-order are hits too. They're not cheap, especially since I have to order from the UK site (grrrr that darn pound!), but if everything fits and looks this good, then they've got theirselves a new fan.

Sigh, sorry, I just realised I got Boden and J. Crew mixed up. Boden has a UK site and a few nice items, but I really love the J. Crew shirts and tops. Of course they don't ship to Europe (but do shop to Japan, maybe I should send them an e-mail and ask them to consider Europe as well;-)

Can you tell I really like their stuff?-)

Ana, at first glance, I thought this floral looked a bit blah and might wash a person out completely. But, then I saw your photo on the Who's Who, and I think the colors would be spectacular on you, really bring out your eye color!!

If you wore it with white clamdiggers though I'd consider wearing a cardi in green or blue to pick up the colors in the print and make it pop more. That might just be me though... I don't really like the white cardi/white pants look.

I never responded to the floral blog post, but this is the type of floral I would go for myself. Since I'm short, I like smaller-scale florals. I'm usually not that big into florals, but do own one that I got from ATL awhile back that I have been wearing quite frequently.

I'm also one who usually doesn't wear collared, buttoned shirts like this, but I have to confess I added not one but *two* recently... both with same length sleeves as the jcrew one. I also like this length sleeve, not sure why.

I have a few button up printed shirts from J. Crew that I like to wear with sweaters or jackets. All 3 of them have long sleeves though, so I was anxious to get one that had short sleeves. They have a darker pink printed one, but it's all sold out in my size. I like the green one better actually, which I didn't think I would. I don't usually wear prints, it's true, but something about the paisley motif and the colors is interesting and fresh and I like it. I would wear this with dark denim clamdiggers instead of white (I decided to take a pass on the white ones), so I thought the white cardi might still be okay. I am planning on getting a dark green cardigan but it might not be the right shade to go with the light shirt.

I'm looking for some different "kinds" of summer tops, rather than have all thick strap sleeveless knit tops. I can get tired of wearing the same type of top pretty quickly if it's too hot to layer much, especially since our summers here are looooong.

My initial reactaion was that I didn't like it. But the more I think about it, the more I like it for you. I wasn't impressed with the small print floral. I'm picturing it with a belted cardi and a skirt for some reason. I'm really trying to have a more open mind about clothing--not just for myself, but just in general.

Yep, denim clamdiggers and white cardi would work.

If you don't usually wear prints, I think this one might be an interesting one to try out for you. Doesn't the blue in it match your eye color?

My only thought is that the sleeves and collar might be too hot for a hot summer. I am finding this style is more for spring, or air-conditioned offices (if I had to go into the office). That could just be me though... I tend to run warm!

But this sleeve length does look particularly cute peeking out under short-sleeve blazers that are so popular right now...

Shiny, my eyes are actually green, but they sort of change depending on what I'm wearing and the lighting, I think. If I wear aqua, they tend to look more blue. If I wear green, they look more green:

Plus I think they've changed as I've gotten older too. Has that happened to any of you?

J. Crew's button up shirts are really light weight, but I can see your point about the collar. Unfortunately they don't have this one in any of the stores that are near me, so I can't try it on. I think I might order it, but I won't be able to until probably June 6th, since that's when I get my next clothing allowance, and this next one I'm already planning on buying the clamdiggers.

I like the shirt but I am having a hard time picturing it on you mostly because I've never seen you wear something like that. My eye color has changed over my lifetime. When I was young, they were hazel and the have gotten greener so now they are green.

I think the shirt is nice, but I also have a harder time imagining you in it. It looks a bit too "nice" (this isn't really the right word; what I mean is that it lacks a little of oomph you usually create, either through richer colors or interesting cuts or layering). It might all depend on how you combine it in an outfit. Surprise us! :-)

Ana, do you think the collar will work with the cardigan you've ordered? I'm having a hard time imagining the two together, but I could be totally off base. I think you have cuter things, but it would definitely be a different look.

Ana, I like the top. It's a bit different than your normal, but it's nice to have variety and broaden your horizons a bit. :-) You always look super in the ensembles you put together.

The shirt didn't stand out to me but that is OK because you don't want everything to be a signature piece. Some things have to take back seat and you might have a great sweater or pants or skirt that you want to stand out more. I'm speaking from learning about putting fabrics together for patchwork quilts. They can't all be the star.
My eyes color has changed and I just noticed it recently. I have always had hazel eyes and now they are dark green. I was so surprised when I noticed it because I had never heard of it from anyone before this.

By the way Ana, that is a very beautiful picture. You have the cutest face!!!
Also want to thankyou for the discount code for JCrew. It worked. I ordered the matchstick jeans in 2 sizes and the clamdiggers in 2 sizes and some trouser jeans also in 2 sizes.
Now I really must get off this website and get some work done. I really get trapped here and learn soooo much. Angie has started something very good here.
THANKYOU ANGIE.

Thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions, and it's nice to know that I don't just have freaky mutant eyes that change color. Maybe people's eyes get more green as they get older or something?

San, you're welcome for the code, I'm glad you could use it! :)

Dani, I would wear it with this cardigan in white or light citron (or possibly kelly green, but I would need to see these in person):

Anyway, I will think about the shirt. It's not super fabulous, it's true. If I go to the J. Crew store and order it, shipping is free and I get 10% off for a student's discount, and I can return it to the store if it ends up not working out, so there's not really anything to lose. The store is right by my husband's work, and I have to go pick him up everyday, so it's not even out of my way. If do end up ordering it, I will definitely put some outfit ideas together and post them here for opinions.

Meanwhile, the hunt for summer tops continues (sigh....).
