Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

What colors to wear with dark olive green pants?

I am trying to find tops for orphan BR casual pants from a couple of seasons ago - they are fab skinny leg dark olive pants with back flap pockets. Sort of a streamlined cargo style, I guess.

I've only ever worn black tops with them. Boring! I have medium blonde hair and blue-grey eyes and the color combo is just too harsh for my coloring. Does anyone have suggestions of more colors I could wear with the pants?

I think navy, cream or white, purple and various shades of red (or even pink?) should work with olive pants. Yellow can work as well...do you wear yellow?

I have a pair of olive shorts that I've been wearing all summer, and much to my surprise, oranges and purples look terrific with them! I have the same coloring as you, btw.

Olive is a very versatile color, pseudo-neutral as S&C would say, so pretty much everything goes with it. I especially like purples, deep pinks, and blue-greys with it.

I have a pair of olive walking shorts, and I love the look of a purple top with them. I also wear them with a bright yellow top and white cami underneath. I like them with very deep, saturated pinks too.

Oh wow, maybe I can try purples or pinks. Yellows and oranges are not my friends, but I could completely see them working with olive green on someone with a different skin tone than mine.

I never even thought of blue-grey, Tanya. That's a fab suggestion.

Thanks everyone!

I had pants this color before losing weight. My very favorite color with them was a heathery aqua blue that was shown everywhere a year or so ago. Heathery or greyed colors should blend well. This color a bit darker is what I mean:

I love red, cream, and citron with olive green. Also, a really bright fuschia pink is nice, especially when it's mixed with a lighter pink--it kind of reminds me of roses.

Ooh, when you describe the color combo that way (rose-like), it sounds so pretty - I might have to see if I can find pieces to pull it off!

I think the key to the "rosy" pink/olive green is variation of shades of the same color. You really need a very vibrant pink to go along with the light pink, to give it some punch. You could even add red accents if you wanted. I think these shoes sort of convey what I'm talking about, maybe you can use them for inspiration (that's easiest for me when I'm trying to figure out how to combine colors):

If I had $300, these shoes would be mine. :D

One of my favourite pair of pants is olive green. I like pairing them with purple (seems to be the winner here so far), cerulean blue, dark brown, brighter green layers, red, a tangeriney colour.......in other words pretty much anything bright!!

Love, love, love the Kate Spade shoes! Thanks for the inspiration.

I am wearing the pants today with a medium-pink 3/4-sleeve sweater (the pink is bluish, not orange-ish), and I had a casual striped scarf that has both olive and the pink in it, plus cobalt blue stripes and a few other colors to make it interesting. My pants have a whole new lease on life!

Laura, I really like the combination of the pink and the olive. I also adore the scarf. You look ready for the fall weather! I'm glad you've found some other things to wear with those pants. They look very nice on you.

i think it looks great! hard to see the pants on my screen, but my work comp. has cruddy color rendering.

just wanted to say though that the top looks fabulous with that scarf!

fyi: i didn't need to enter a password to view the photo. if you link a photo directly, you don't need one. i think if you send a link to the whole album though, then you need to enter the password. hope that helps!

Thanks all and thanks Shell for letting me in on the mysteries of Photobucket.

I added a denim jacket and was all ready to go for my SAHM day!
