What can i pair with a skirt for fall/winter?

For a class i go to on weekends, the only thing we can wear are skirts or dresses. What can i put on for a top that wont look weird with a skirt and leggings? We are not allowed to wear spaghetti straps, strapless, or midriff shirts

Where are you located? What will the weather be like? What type of skirt are you talking about -- pencil, A-line, skater, tube?

You can pair skirts with all kinds of tops. Check Angie's ensembles. A fluid pullover is a great choice for cool weather. You can top with a denim jacket, a blazer, a trench, a moto -- all depends on weather and level of formality.

I saw a college-aged woman at church on Sunday who had put a rather open knit acid yellow sweater over a (summer) black and white horizontal striped shift dress, with tights and boots, and it was adorable. The concept was similar to Angie's boxy or loose top over a pencil skirt formula to take the va-voom out of the look.

The answer to this totally depends on the shape of the skirt! For example, if it's a slim-fitting pencil skirt, a fluid or oversized top would look good, especially if it has a high-low hem. An a-line skirt looks better with a more fitted top -- something that shows the shape of your waist -- such as a tailored shirt or fitted long-sleeve tee.

Depending on the hem length of the skirt, different kind of shoes or boots look good. I personally prefer ankle boots or flat oxfords with an above-knee skirt, or if it's a real thigh-length mini, a pair of flat knee boots. If the skirt covers my knee, low-vamp shoes or higher-heeled boots look way better.

A jean jacket pairs well with a multitude of skirts and will cover your shoulders too. Wear it over your skinny-strap tops and you're good to go!

If this is by any chance a tango class, I believe a certain slinkiness is in order, so maybe a faux-wrap or leotard-type top in a silky knit? If it's other sorts of ballroom dancing, just pair the skater skirt with any sort of pretty top that still accents the waist, but gives you plenty of mobility. If it's a public speaking course, wear a jacket. If it's a cooking class, wear an apron!
