I just read in the newspaper that a Macy's is scheduled to open in my area mid-way through 2013. It's not a super big surprise, since 6 years ago there were plans to open both a Macy's and an Old Navy, as well as doubling the size of our only indoor mall (which is currently a single level). The plans fell through when the economy tanked, but it looks like Macy's has reconsidered. There has been an empty anchor store in the mall for several years (since Gottschalks went out of business), so they are increasing the size of that store and taking it over. Even though Macy's is not my fave, I am excited to be getting a little higher end department store in my area (the other ones in my area are Sears and Penney's- in the mall, and Kohl's, Target and K Mart outside of the mall). The article in the paper made a big deal about how "upscale" Macy's is, and how it will draw other upscale retail into our area- I sure hope so. Of course, compared to what we have now (close out stores and Junior fashion)- it really is upscale!
