Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Wedding Wear! (New Dress: Edited 2/18)

I don't attend a lot of weddings, so I'm not really sure what works. The last wedding I went to I wore my LBD and I felt I was at a funeral the whole time. I want to buy a dress that works for evening and day weddings.

Concerns:
I feel like I look really wide in the dress (I'm 5'5" and it's a size 0, so is it in my head?)
Is it too bold for a wedding? With the print and all?
The shoe heels are too high... not sure what shoes I would wear with it.
What accessories would YOU wear with it?

Wow the white dress looks gorgeous and the other dress is a flattering cut too.
I did think the bright blue dress looked a bit bridesmaidy but perhaps the key is what accessories you would wear with it. Others at YLF should be able to help you with that! (I am still a beginner)

I'm just guessing that the style of dress in a print like the first dress you are wearing will be more wedding guest and less bridesmaid. As Anne says, accessories may also make the difference.

I think the blue dress is very pretty and would look great on you. I can't tell from the picture, but it looks like it's not a full floor-length dress. I think that is a good way to not make it like a bridesmaid dress. I think some cute strappy sandals and some statement jewelry would look great.

The blue dress is very pretty and obviously a very flattering cut for you. I actually like that it's a little less poufy than the print dress too. I agree with Anne that making it less bridesmaid-like is all in the accessories. Throw in a colorful print pashmina, maybe some sliver strappy heels, a funky statement necklace (rather than pearls which might be more standard bridesmaid jewelry) or dramatic chandelier earrings and a bold cuff bracelet.

Wha I am seeing are 3 pics of a stunning green print boho style dress that needs gladiator type sandals. I love this dress on you.

Yeah, I changed out the pictures today because I decided the blue dress WAS too bridesmaid-ish. I like the gladiator sandal idea. It makes it boho and Grecian, which I love.

That dress is killer and you look fantastic. It's a bold print, yes, but I don't think it's too loud for a wedding. You can always wrap a solid colored shawl around your upper body if it makes you feel more comfortable and/or less like a shining beacon of awesome pattern. I agree with San--gladiator (or gladiator-inspired) sandals would work well. If not, I'm pretty sure you can never go wrong with strappy sandals.

Beautiful! I think you can easily pull off a print like this because your are petite, and it is tailored enough up top. The colors are beautiful.

I agree that a solid color shawl would be a good cover-up for it, especially during the ceremony. Any type of strappy sandel would look great, but it a neutral-ish finish to balence out the pattern.

This is a great dress for you.
The cut is very flattering on top. I would not worry about the fullness. I like the idea of gladiator sandals. I saw some recently at Nordstrom’s in a black/white 'lizard'. Or maybe it was Macy’s..
They were fairly muted in design. They would give you the Grecian look, be more fluid with the dress and it's pattern.

I agree that a wrap in a solid color would be the solution, like Eve, if you feel you need to ‘dim your light’ just a bit for a moment. But just for a moment. Let yourself shine in this dress.
It is really wonderful. I love the color/print on you.

Wow - you look fantastic! I love this dress on you. You look so regal!

This is a fab wedding look. I agree that sandals would be perfect. And maybe keep the other accessories not glitzy/dressy but more Boho - like some fun gold chandelier earrings?

Hmmm, I know maxi dresses are in but I cannot see this working for a daytime wedding. I think it would be great for an evening wedding - the print makes it standout and with the right accessories, I think it would be a very hip evening wedding outfit. You definitely have the figure for it and it looks gorgeous on you!
