Warm weather slippers

Angie's post today reminded me of a question I've had for a while. I need some ideas for warm weather slippers. We have all tile/wood and something *super* cushy and cute would be great.

For summer slippers I tend to wear those cotton or modal knit shoe liners or footlets (I'm not sure what they are called.) They won't last forever but can be very inexpensive on sale and can be tossed in the washer. Most of mine are from Hue found in the stockings section of the store. I've also found these to be perfect for summer air travel with slip-on shoes so you won't be barefoot going through security, and they can double as travel slippers. My favorites are animal prints.

I wear Ugg thong sandals that are lined with sheepskin. It's kind of a strange combination (sandals and sheepskin) but it works. These aren't quite the same, they are clunkier looking than mine:

Our house is mostly tile too. And it is 100+ degrees here.

We all wear spa slippers from a company called Yeah Baby. They design spa slippers and other supplies for spas all over the country. They are based right here in Chandler, AZ.

I think they work well on the tile. Plus, I like the whole spa-at-home vibe.

I've tried cushy house shoes, and they lose their cushiness after a while. Give me a sturdy pair of spa sandals with the foot massaging bumps on them anytime. Aaaaah!

Angie, we keep the AC at 78-79F. My feet are *never* cold in the summer. I think Laura's shoes would be too hot with the sheepskin. I have some Haflinger slippers for winter but they only see about 3 months of wear which means they will last me a while.

Lesley, I will investigate the spa option although I've never worn the shoes with bumps before.

Patience, we have mostly tile (you know that, hehe) and I wear some Columbia flip flops when I am home. They are really cushy and have great support, but don't add any warmth. I only wear them in the house, so I can wear them on the carpeted areas also and they don't mess it up.

Sorry, can't help you - I go barefoot in the summer and enjoy every minute of it! I love the feel of cold tile on my hot toes.

Okay! That’s quite warm, Patience. I’d either go Euro style and get a pair of comfy Birkenstock house shoes, or opt for a cool peep toe 100% cotton slipper like they wear in Singapore (which is right on the equator).

I normally go barefoot in the house in the summer although with some of my recent foot issues, I have been wearing a pair of cushy, BR cashmere bedroom slippers (no sole) that are just slides (open in the back). They're probably better suited to winter but they seem to work to keep my feet cushioned. Like in many Asian households, I grew up with a no shoes inside rule so I don't like to wear anything with a real sole inside. Plus, I am afraid they will scratch up our wood floors. I used to have a pair of Giesswein slippers that I loved - you might want to check out that brand.

Angie, I'm not sure what either of the options you suggest are. Are Birkenstock house shoes different from the standard Birkenstock options?

Shiny, I also prefer to feel the cool floor on my feet, but right now I think my back will thank me for something a little cushy.

I would never wear them outside of the house, but I have a pair of Madrid Birkenstocks that I use as Summer slippers. Not sure if these are 'Birkenstock house shoes', but they do the job for me;-)

I have the exact Birkenstocks Inge posted (in red patent) as houseshoes and love them. They are super comfortable and don't add warmth, and the bright patent is quite un-Birkenstocky if that makes sense.

I guess I missed the rest of this thread. Thanks for the great suggestions. The Madrids seem like a good way to go and a reasonable price. Any votes on color? I kind of like the plum and the silver. Inge, do you take a 38? I may have to try them on in a store first.

Yes, 38 is my regular shoe size, and the Birkenstocks I have are a 38, so I guess they run true to size.

The plum and silver are my two favourite colours too!-) The red could be fun as well.

I use my Keen sandals as slippers too. They are so soft and cushy to walk on. Not super attractive but for tired feet that are in pain, they do the trick.

I just saw these Acorn "hostess and travel" slippers on the Wardrobe 911 site and thought of you. Would something like this work for you? The description mentions heel to toe cushioning with arch support.

I wear Birkenstocks at home, too. One thing I like about them is that the cork (I think that's the material) footbed always feels cool and comfortable when I slide them on - especially after I've been outside in the heat, feeling the cool cork on my feet is so nice.

I think it's become a Pavlovian association with relaxation for me: go home, put on Birkenstocks, feel relaxed.

I prefer Smartdogs Comfort Slippers, they are great indoor/outdoor slippers and have "Active Comfort" technology too.
