Waist surrendering top - yay or nay?

I love the Asian print on this top, so much that I took a leap and tried a cut I normally avoid.

Paired with dark skinnies and my new Frye lace up boots to keep the rest of the look very slim and simple.

Please be brutally honest. It's not a look I'm accustomed to, so I'm not sure i trust my eye. I love how it feels, and I think it looks better IRL than in the photo.

What do you think?

I think it looks wonderful! I don't really consider it waist surrounding though while it is belted. How does it look without the tie?

I agree the print is great but I wouldn't consider it waist surrendering. I'm not sold on it, I think it's the way it's cut at the top as it changes to white. Love the boots though.

The tie is attached -- it is sewn to the front of the top, so in theory it could be tied front or back. The SA and I tried it a couple if ways, and in three different sizes, and this was the size and tie method we thought looked best. I think it would be possible to take off the ties if I decided I wanted to truly surrender the waist.

I would not have noticed surrender had it not been pointed out. I only see an outfit that looks and feels so natural and perfect on you. You look so long in it.

Ok I am not super popular saying this but while I like the top I don't think it is as flattering on you as a v-neck would be most flattering on you (I have a similar figure). I love the boots and the jeans look great.

I think it totally works. Is the length/untucked thing new for you? With your long legs, tunic length is DIVINE on you. The boots and tucked in jeans are to die for! And kudos on tying in the front. I have done that a few times because I prefer the look to tied in the back. If you cut off the ties and then decided you didn't want to surrender the waist completely, you could always slap on a wide belt. I love the proportions! You look AMAZING!

I'm going to go against the grain here as well. I like the idea of the shirt, but I'm not liking the fit around your shoulders with the fabric under your arms. I'd like to see it without the tie at the waist to see if it flows better. I don't think it looks bad by any means, but it's also not making me go WOW! like I usually do with your outfits. I feel like a waist surrendering top needs to be a little fitted somewhere else, like the arms or the bust.

Caveat: you know I love a waist surrender, and ties at the waist make me nervous.

I'm with Sarah. You and those boots and those jeans are just SO AMAZING that I can't think straight!!!!

I may be with Una on the top fit issue...it's meant to be boxy, I suspect, but something about it fading to white (as Anna says) creates a very wide shoulder line. BUT...you do have your arm extended in the pic and you may be absolutely right that IRL the impression is more floaty. In which case, I say GO for it.

The boots are totally fab, Janet, but I agree with Una about the top. Too much volume at the shoulder and armholes of the top, no real waist surrender. It's not bad, but I think there are better tops out there for you.

I have to agree with some others that the top looks too big, at least with the waist cinched like this. Maybe we can see it loose, or with the ties tied in back?

The jeans and boots are wonderful. I'm not sure about the top. Something seems off a bit. I'd like to see it with a wider belt of your own and a pendant necklace or long beads to break up the white at the top. The fit at bust and sleeve remind me a bit of the dolman style. I can't tell from the photo. Is there a shoulder seam?
