V-Neck Sweaters...

Ok - I am trying to get on the bandwagon, and get on with re-creating my wardrobe. My question is re: v-neck sweaters - do they always have to be layered somehow?

What I'm asking is if a v-neck sweater needs some sort of layer underneath it? Or can you wear a v-neck sweater all by itself with a necklace and possibly another layer over it (perhaps a jacket or what have you) ?

I am asking this question because I found some v-neck sweaters that look pretty good on their own (no layer underneath), but when I try to add in a shirt underneath, it doesn't look so good. Sizing up with the sweater results in boxy-ness, and I guess I'm just unclear as to how to wear a v-neck sweater.

How do you wear v-neck sweaters?

I like them layered in some way- over or under. Try putting a vest or jacket over to see how that works. I had my boyfriend blazer over a cardi the other day and it looked really cute.

Personally I've often worn them witnout anything under for years, assuming the V wasn't too low, but lately I've been adding more camisoles under my v-neck pieces. Give that a shot; there's no bulk whatsoever with a cami, and you can have really cute details just peaking out.

You have to be careful with basic V-neck pullovers because they look masculine, (in a bad way), fast. Girly details like camisoles with lacy insets help, and scarves are excellent too. I only ever layer my V-neck argyle pullovers over button-down shirts. I just don’t feel pretty wearing them any other way.

I usually wear mine with a lacy camisole (like what Angie mentioned) with a pretty necklace. Or I try to find a sweater that isn't too heavy & if it's evening then I just put it on with no camisole but keep the necklace.

vc- I have the same problem with trying to put a button down under a v neck sweater. I like to stick with finer gauge knits, so putting a woven shirt underneath leaves a mess! I would go with a cami and then layer cute jacket over, and a scarf or fun necklace.

Thank you! I'll see if I can find some nice camisoles to go under my new sweaters. If not, then I think the sweaters are going back. I love the look of a button-down shirt under a snazzy-looking v-neck sweater, but everything just looks all rumpled. If I try a larger sweater, and it still doesn't look quite right because the shoulder line of the bigger sweater is sitting partway down my upper arm. (roll eyes).

I think that argyle would look great with or without a cami- just pop a jacket over it, and add a solid scarf if you want! The Ann Taylors look like they might need a bit more sprucing up- definitely a cami, an interesting necklace, denim jacket....
Have a dress up day- try them with different things in your closet, post some pictures and let us give our yay's or nays.

I wear v-necks almost exclusively (I have a round face, and v-necks help elongate it a bit. They're definitely the most flattering neckline for me.). I've never thought of them as masuline, but I typically choose fine knits rather than any chunky-type knit.

I very rarely layer. The only time I add a camisole underneath is if the v is way too deep. Actually, I prefer showing a bit of cleavage (which may help the sweater look a little more feminine), so the v has to be super deep for me to wear an under layer.

I rarely layer over the sweater, either, but that's just a personal choice because I do not like the feel of multiple layers on my body.

Mostly, I wear my v-neck sweaters and tees alone, without layering, and usually with a necklace. I think it looks ok, although maybe a little plain jane at times.

I love v-neck sweaters.
I wear them a variety of ways.
I have a seafoam green one that DH got me as an anniversary gift. I wear a white lacy cami underneath (it's super thin, but it smoothes out the lumps and bumps), a bauble necklace that's just one shade darker than the sweater (another gift from DH), jeans, boots, and a faux leather jacket in either brown or camel. This is one of my favorite outfits by far.
I'm wearing a navy blue v-neck sweater today with the same white lace cami and a print scarf. Scarves can feminize just about anything, I think.
I also do like to wear a collared shirt under my v-necks - primarily if it's a floral print button down under a solid sweater, or a solid button down under a print sweater.

PS: If it weren't for the belt loops on my jeans, I'd wear this navy blue v-neck sweater by itself. It's very fitted though, not baggy at all. I'd add some pearls or something to make it more interesting.
