V-neck sweater dress for Maya

Hi Maya

I just posted this in the comments in Angie's post about sweater dresses, but just in case you missed that:

I just came across this petit V-neck sweater dress at French Connection, it’s on sale for $34.99 and I love the pom pom detailing on the neckline and arms. It has a bit of the fit and flare going on that Angie talked about, and comes in red and black. It's short-sleeved though, but maybe with a tissue-weight long-sleeved top underneath?

They do say it's light weight, so I'm not sure if it will be clingy or not.

That is cute, Inge. I bet Maya would look great in red too.

That dress is ADORABLE! If I wore wool I'd be all over it. Black leggings, maybe animal print flats if one has those... Ooh la la as Angie would say.

You're a honey to have spotted that dress, Inge. I asked Maya whether she’d fancy that dress on the blog post – my guess was that she’d hesitate because it wasn’t a fit and flare. But I could be wrong. It’s a fab little number. Would be interesting to see it on. Sweet!

Where is Maya?

Inge you are such a love. The dress is beautiful but the belt is a problem. I might try it if it was otherwise perfect, but the short sleeves, light weight, and acrylic fabric aren't going to work.I'm also not sure about that skirt. Is it double layered? I can't tell if it's straight or flare.

Oh yeah, add the "little or no acrylic" to my mile-high list of demands. I find that it pills horrendously and almost immediately. I'm not holding my breath for a sweater dress. I found a perfect one from BR but it's only available in tall sizes :(

Neckline? Check
Length? A little short but I like my dresses a bit shorter
Color? Check
Fabric? Check
Shape? Definite check
Sleeves? ...

So what is the verdict on wearing a cardigan over a sweater dress? I think it seems kind of odd. A sweater over a sweater? Maybe I'm wrong though.

I love, love, love that BR sweater dress, Maya. I feel like I've seen someone else on this forum wear it in their outfit photos. Dani or Nicole maybe?

I think Dani has the BR dress, and it looks great on her. I like the UO one, but it says it's polyester - do you think it's better than acrylic? I sense that a cardigan over a sweater dress isn't right, but maybe there are ways to make it work.

I don't like acrylic because it pills the second it touches something. Is that true for polyester? If not, then I don't really care. I think it's hard to find anything all natural below a certain price point, and since I don't really care for cashmere or spending lots of money on sweaters in general, it seems inevitable.

I probably missed Dani's post. It's hard to keep up with this place these days! I wish they had it in petite sizes. Sigh.

I also am not willing to spend on cashmere. The only sweaters that I had last a long time are merino wool. Everything else seems to pill quickly. Now that I think about it, I can't quite picture what a polyester sweater would be like - I thought it would be like nylon... I guess that doesn't pill as bad.

No problem Maya, I just wanted to show it to you;-)

I love the BR dress (I think Dani has it, yes), and the tall would be a good length for me, unfortunately they are out of my size (and I can't order from BR anyway).

A cardigan over the sweater dress could work Maya, why don't you give it a try?

Maya, I do have the BR dress and it's a really nice fit (I'm on the busty side as well). When I purchased it, Angie said no to a cardigan over the dress - too much knit. I've had to work with other items to make it more cold weather appropriate. I've worn a structured jacket over it, a denim jacket would work, and my latest attempt was to wear a long sleeve layer under the dress.

I'm really sorry they are out of your size :(

Maya, would this work for you?

It is cashmere, but the price is great!
