Well I am finally getting my ACL reconstructed - next Monday! It has taken a long time to get here!
Now I am looking for netflix recommendations to keep me busy for the first week. I have watched all the main ones and many of the ones that have been recommended here before.
If you have any suggestions I would be most grateful.

Oh gosh - good luck with the ACL surgery. We've been dealing with it in our house over the past year ( my daughter) , and the decision has been made not to do it. Hope it goes well for you!

Lisa it took me along time to get the consult. Living in Canada these things are not quick. Then I finally saw him and was re-referred to another surgeon. I also considered not doing the surgery and actually postponed my first date. Since then I have tried really hard to strengthen and rebuild but I am still really limited in what I can do. This is a complete tear and it is started to impact the inside of my knee. So at the end I have decided to get it done.

So, Canadian Netflix, eh? Outlander (the first 2 seasons, all that is out so far) just appeared on Netflix this April.

Other than that... what type of stuff do you like?

I liked:
Nobel (so good)
Shetland (am watching now)
Oldies include Orange is the New Black (but graphic sex/violence/language. still really interesting)
Thirteen (a stand alone movie)
If you've never watched the (US version) of the Office, I recommend starting with season 2. Hilarious but also sweet.

You could do all the costume dramas - Colin Firth Pride and Predjudice, North and South, the Paradise. Right now watching Dustin Hoffman's Medici thing. He's really quite awful in it, lol, but it's still entertaining

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Make sure to ice! My husband had a meniscus repair last December. See if they want you to use crutches or at least a cane.

Currently watching, 13 Reasons Why. Also, watched (I believe) 3 seasons of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Ah Style fan I loved The Crown!
Danusia they have ordered a compression icing device called Game Ready which is used for the first week. Also crutches and a brace that keeps the knee in a straight position.

13 Reasons Why is a good series to watch, especially if you have or work with teenagers. I watched the entire series when it was first released.

I'm thinking ClaraT was referring to Thirteen, the recent documentary about the 13th Amendment and recently won an award, and not the other Thirteen which is a teen film. . .

Not sure if they are on Netflix, but
Orphan Black which is a series from BBC America
The Wire which was another TV series

I don't have cable or subscribe to streaming services. I check out DVDs a LOT from the library and really like the bonus features that come on DVDs. In my city, I can put holds on them (online) and check them out for three weeks and renew once (online) if there's not already a hold.

I can roll off LOTS of excellent Netflix TV shows - but my taste is gritty when it comes to shows, which might not be your cup of tea. Let me know if you'd like suggestions for that.

I disagree with Clara T, though. You have to start the US Office at the beginning - Season 1, episode 1 - because the stories of the characters build up into an amazing crescendo. The Pam and Jim storyline is sublime.

I live in Canada too DD's was a complete tear too, and she worked on strengthening it (and had two scopes and scar tissue clear-outs) with an athletic therapist for the past year. Luckily for her, it's her area of professional interest, so she was actually enjoying the learning part and making professional connections. We only had to wait for the swelling from the initial injury to go down before her first surgery - and that was about 6 weeks in . She had to have another scope and clean-out about 4 months later. Getting into see the surgeon was actually a quick and efficient process, and she's become a bit of a friend to my daughter now. Interesting relationships between sports surgeons and their patients. How did you tear yours?

As for Netflix - have you watched Broadchurch? And how about Big Little Lies? (it just finished on HBO but if you have a media box, it's there for free )

Westworld (so good am desperate for season 2!)
Ray Donovan (just watched 4 seasons - Liev Schreiber and John Voight are fantastic)
Jane the Virgin (NEVER thought I'd watch this but loved season 1 all I've watched so far)
Schitt's Creek (hilarious, Canadian, Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara need I say more?)

Luther (really liked the first few seasons, less convinced about the later ones)
The Americans (haven't seen this yet myself, but it's supposed to be great)

I've just started watching the Chef's Table documentary series and am really enjoying that too.

Fashion documentaries:
I see that Iris and The True Cost of Fashion are currently on Netflix Belgium as well (not sure if you can watch them on Canadian Netflix).

I can second (or third?) The Crown, Big Little Lies, The Americans, Outlander (have to admit my favorite books), People vs.OJ. There's also Top of the Lake, a mystery with Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men, House of Cards, Veep. There are some British mysteries we like but I can't think of the names right now. We just started watching 13 Reasons Why. You could always watch West Wing - lots of shows, it would keep you busy for a while! Not sure if all of these are on Netflix though.

I'd go for The Nightmanager, and Car Share (but be prepared for UK humour!)

And for some more gritty choices..., engranage, Borgen, department q, line of duty, Luther. Which are largely police dramas apart from Borgen which is political.
