Uh oh...busted - YouLookFab Forum

So it looks like I've been dealing with a serious case of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) plus NAS excitement (and I don't even live in the States!)!

I place a NAS order last week, then drove to Seattle for a little shopping at the meetup, then hit the Vince outlet on the way home....then after surfing the net found the Helmut Lang Villous sweatshirt from a Canadian retailer at a decent price (ie same as US but in CDN $)...so ordered it...just to try....

Well I get a call this AM from DH saying Visa called him and is asking where he most commonly online shops, and that our Visa has been frozen...uh oh...I had some questions to answer!

DH is always very good about my shopping - I'm not really too bad. It just seems I've been a bit caught up and even VISA is having troubles following me around

Might have to make it a no-buy-Aug-Sept for me. I should be pretty much all sorted (after I go through a full audit-procedure tonight over dinner...)

Who else is caught up in the action?

Uh oh! Haha! It's probably the American purchases that flagged the call. Their security system robots most likely don't recognize how easy it is to get from Vancouver to Seattle and back in a day.

Yep. Separate cards/separate bank accounts keep the peace around here! I am a co-signer on the Visa I got my daughter years ago because she was under age. She's now 22 with a strong credit record, so I could remove myself,but I do like to get those calls about more than usual shopping/dining so I'm armed when she calls asking for money for contacts or whatever:-).

That's so great! My husband raises his eyebrows too, but most of what I mail order is returned.

Oh dear! At least your identity wasn't stolen. Make DH wait until after dinner to go over the numbers. Tell I said it's bad for digestion to do it during the meal!

Yes, I clearly got caught up in the action! Guilty as charged! Relieved to have already returned a couple of things. At this point, if I keep everything else, I'll be good if I have a modest August. But this was my first NAS and it has been a challenge!

I completely understand. After joining this site last week, I went shopping with my DD and snapped up a few items (on summer clearance). I hate to think where I'll be in a month or two.

That's too funny! Our credit card company apparently doesn't realize that a husband and wife can have the same card and be in different places/countries. They have frozen our card nearly every time he is out of the country and I use it, despite us calling them in advance. It is an automatic computer reaction to the same number being used in two different countries - even right across the border sometimes!

But I hope your shopping pays off and you find things you love!

It's probably good that they called you in the scheme of things, eh? I have a small limit card that I use for all my clothing purchases, and not much else. Keeps hubby from raising even more eyebrows at all the buy-and-returns (they really do seem to pile up!) and the low limit helps keep my bank accounts happy

Several months ago I purchased some new winter boots and shoes, and was trying out several different styles (all from Zappos). During one of the deliveries, the UPS man handed the box to DH and said, "Somebody sure does buy a lot of shoes!" Thanks, Mr. UPS man, thanks a lot.

Very guilty of getting caught up here. We spent the weekend in Seattle, and it wasn't timed on purpose with NAS, really. So I had a little Athleta parcel waiting for me, love the Prima capris and another pair that are similar but adjustable full length that will be great for traveling. Then found my much coveted Rag and Bone Dres at Nordstroms. And since they were sold out of the Halogen cashmere tunics, I ordered a couple online to pick up at the border in a couple of weeks (I'm trying out the box service). I'm sure one or two will go back.... Now I'm definitely no buy for September!

Is seems you have some pillow-talking to do I've also been ordering items from NAS, two orders transformed into five shipments! Good thing they get delivered to my office, so everything is minimized in volume by the time I get the goods home, but I always end up asking his opinion on items. And yes, I won't keep everything so the amounts charged are deceiving. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Too funny! You were so busted ha ha. It must be hard not to get caught up in the excitement of NAS. Being in Australia I have found it easier to withdraw and watch NAS from a distance and share in the joys and triumphs of others:) Nordies shipping to Aus, along with the cost of returns is too expensive so I just don't bother. I do keep an eye on what's about though so I am ready when the styles arrive in our stores;)

I am in the same boat. I keep saying that this last thing outs my wardrobe right where I need it to be for now - and then I find the perfect... whatever. I keep trying to cut myself off, but it is so hard to resist some things! I need to stop before I get busted!!

Vince outlet? Outlets in Marysville, just north of Everett? Hmmm, may have to take a little detour when visiting my parents in a couple of weeks.

I got busted last fall by DH. Our card was one that was stolen in the Target debacle. We had purchases in Miami, Chicago suburb, and a few stores in San Francisco (mine) all on the same day. Our card was closed which was good given that it had been stolen but I had to come clean with a pretty hefty buy/return I was in the midst of. DH was cool about it and laughed at my web of purchases. I am much better at tracking everything now.

I haven't had my credit card frozen, but I have had them call because they suspected fraud. Well, I had charged two very large orders within two days, one for EB and one for Macy's. Turns out that every single item went back, if I recall!

I have re-discovered the joy of lay-by. I am finding it keeps me honest about staying within my budget and paying off borrowings against future monies allocated to clothes purchases.
