Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Tweed shorts - how to match them?

I bought a pair of grey tweed shorts yesterday, and would love different ideas of what I can wear with them! (I hope you like them since I've removed the tag!)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I like them but think as they are so short they will definitely need tights or leggings under them x

Thanks Louise! I'll definitely wear them with leggings or tights, it'd be too cold not to! And even so, I'm not too fond of being bare legged.

Any thoughts on different types and styles I could wear on top?

This is one look that i've never worn, but it looks like it should be kept sleek and simple. Because you have layers going on below your waist, you may want to keep the top to one color or neutrals and plain and fitted (the cuffs on the shorts seem to me to give volume there). I could see a black turtle-neck or V-neck sweater and maybe a long chain with a pendant, or a grey tweed short fitted jacket over a black or a white knit top or button-down shirt. Maybe add a bright scarf. A hat would be cute in whatever style works for you.

Love them on you! But with leggings or hose.

Thanks Joy and Angie! I love all your ideas Joy! And it sounds like a good point to keep the top to one colour/neutrals, I hadn't thought of that myself. I love the idea of a V-neck sweater and long necklace..! Thanks again!

OMG, the 90's are back in full force!! Definitely thick opaque tights although I could see some dark tone on tone patterned hose too. I like Joy's ideas of a simple turtleneck - you can do this with a long pendant necklace, patterned tights and booties or oxfords for a sophisticated look. I could also see a ruffled button down with a cardigan, knee high boots. I'm sure there are some funkier/boho ways of doing it too but since I am neither, it's hard for me to come up with any good ideas :( I don't like it with the tee that you are wearing (though I love the cardigan) - it's too summery and I think you really need to make it a winter look.

Cuuute! I've tried on various pair but they looked ridiculous on me. They look great on you!
Here are a few ideas:

(with nude fishnets?)

(with a floral blouse and bf blazer)

(add tights)

(I think your tweed would look far better here than those denim ones)

Sorry about the late reply - I've had some hectic days!

Shana - thanks for your ideas! I really like the additional idea about patterned tights and booties (I love the ones Angie made a post about the other day!)! Ooh, there is so much I want to buy; but so little money... ;) And don't worry, the cami in the pic is just what I had on in the store. I wouldn't wear it like that.

Sarah - Thanks! And all those ideas, that's so sweet of you! I absolutely love the third one... And your version of the second one!

RoseandJoan - great idea! I really like that look..!

I'm going for a bit of a shopping trip tomorrow, hopefully I'll come back with something good... I feel really inspired by all your ideas! Loads of thanks!

Thanks Louise, great link! And, you're spot on I must say! I've actually planned to hopefully buy a pair of (what I imagine) grey chunky-knitted legwarmers tomorrow... among other things to go with the shorts, I was hoping!
