Turquoise Cons -- yay or nay?

Okay, I made a total impulse purchase today and I'm undecided whether to keep or return. I was in Kohl's and saw turquoise low-top Converse, and my size happened to be available. (Marianna, I thought of you because they also had a women's size 12! I know you were saying how hard it is to find those.)

Anyway, what I really need is plain white Cons, or maybe charcoal, but those were not in evidence and what was was... turquoise.

My son says they're "kind of little-kid" and I'm afraid he might be right. What do you think?

I think they're yummy delicious! I love that color!! You'll probably be wearing neutral pants, so who needs neutral Converse? They're not over the top, just fun. I love sneakers with some character, I say definitely keep them!

Very spring-y April! DH has been wanting me to get turquoise cons instead of the charcoal ones. Very insistent

I, too, have pondered what color Converse I might actually wear. For me, I would only wear them with skinny jeans, so I'd love to see that turquoise color peeking out. . .

I think my fear is that a middle-aged woman wearing Cons might be better off sticking with a classic, neutral color since the shoe itself is already a pretty youthful look. Add a "little-kid" color and I might appear to be impersonating a teen.

I notice, for example, that the turquoise color is being sold on the Hot Topic and Delia's sites. Ahem.

Hmmm - I'm 51. I know the charcoal or black would be a more classically stylish look, but sometimes I've had enough of that and need a bit more 'personality'. I think Converse-wearing times would not be times I am trying to be classically stylish.

However, if the rest of your outfit isn't enhanced by a pop of turquoise, then definitely move onto a different Converse?

Thanks for thinking of me, April. I like the turquoise too... very current and fun. But I do understand your hesitations. I know Angie has bright Converse, though. I think if you pair them with a sophisticated outfit, you'll look totally age appropriate.

Those Cons are really fun in turquoise. I think they will add an extra (but subtle) kick to an outfit, since you're likely to wear them with bootcuts and they'll mainly be peeping out from under them. Don't wear them with skinnies and you'll be fine

I understand your hesitation and think that it all depends on your style personality. For instance, having met Angie- bright cons make perfect sense. She has an edge and an outgoing personality that make it all work. I would feel foolish in a really bright color sneaker. But they may be perfect for you. I do not think they would look too young if you kept to bootcuts. Clams or skinnies with cons look very much like my students.
It all deprnds on how you feel in them.

Delia's might have them, but I guarantee Nordstrom's has them too. If you go on Elle or Vogue you'll find women wearing them there too. Obviously you wouldn't wear them to the office (well, maybe a very casual Friday), so I don't see anything wrong with them for running around. If YOU'RE not comfortable, then that's the answer. But remember, you picked them out for a reason. I think your inner diva is trying to tell you something.

i don't think these are too young for you at all, and would make a delicious pop of color in your outfits -- BUT, if you're so uncomfortable with them that it would make you hesitate to wear them, then don't. you have to do what's best for you, after all!

April, maybe the answer is somewhere in between turquoise and grey. They have so many colors, you should be able to find one you love and feel comfortable in. Check out Moroccan Blue or Blue Surf...

Hmm, Kristine -- I think that inner diva is probably responsible for a number of wardrobe orphans...

I love the color of the Cons. I'm just not sure that in a sneaker, it's quite me.

I love how there is a blog that is dedicated to showcasing everything turquoise.

I like the Cons, but I am getting the feeling that you're not going to feel completely confident in them, which means you won't wear them, so I'd pass.
