Tunic Tops for Yellow Bootcut Jeans

I am looking for a simple tunic length top to wear with some bright yellow slim bootcut jeans I got at J. Crew. I was thinking this top (which is actually a very short dress) might look good with a belt and some interesting accessories. My question is if this counts as a "T-shirt" or a knit top. It's made from Pima Cotton, which is nicer than regular t-shirt material.

If you all don't think this would work, does anyone have any suggestions of tops that might work? I love the color of the jeans, but I think a tunic length top would work best because they are so bright, I want to cover some of them up so they're not so in-your-face.

Ana, How about something like this? I think the stitching detail will be a bit of a distraction to the brightness of the pants.

Nicole, I can't follow the link right now, the site says it's temporarily unavailable. I did find this shirt on the Nordstrom's website. I was thinking the navy might look good:

I'm not sure, but it looks like maybe the tunic can be unbuttoned slightly so I could layer it over a cami for interest.

The one that I tried to link is a Michael Kors Linen Tunic Dress. Try searching Nordstrom using those words. It's brown with white stitching around the neck and arms.

That's a beautiful top, Ana! I find it much more interesting than the first one you linked to. That t-shirt one looked fine but a little plain (dare I say "boring"?) This navy one rocks. And besides the yellow bootcuts (which sound swell, by the way) it would look good with differently colored pants, walk shorts or clamdiggers, too, especially white or cream.

I'm not sure about shoes. I don't have too many options at this point (I'm still trying to build up a decent shoe collection). The jeans have a 31" inseam, so it would have to be some sort of heel. Would my embroidered cream heels look okay?

Do you think I should have them hemmed to wear with flats instead?

Metallic shoes are a good idea. Good hot weather neutral. Try your cream heels too.

Hmmm. Hem length depends on your shoe preference. Is this an everyday thing? Do you wear heels every day? When do you plan to wear these yellow boot cuts?

I was thinking I'd wear the yellow bootcuts as one of my "everyday" more casual summer outfits. I got them on sale at J. Crew for $15.00, so if I only wear them from time to time, it wouldn't be a huge waste of money. I like Antje's suggestion for the blue tunic top. I have white walk shorts and I want to get some white jeans too, so I think I could get a lot of use out the top.

I generally like to wear 2" heels with pants, just because it seems to make my legs more proportional. With dresses and skirts, I like to wear flats, kitten heels, or 2" heels. So the shoes I wear from day to day sort of depends on what I'm wearing that day.

I will try my cream heels and look for some comfy metallic heels. Do you think gold would be good?

Wow those pants were a steal Ana. I was thinking the other day that pants can be so boring and limiting and most people don't consider the idea of colored bottoms.

Anyway I wanted to say that I have 2 tunic tops similar to the first ones you posted and I'm in agreement with everyone else--DON'T BOTHER. I hate that fabric. It wrinkles and doesn't drape all that well or look terribly polished.

I love my cream pants. I wore them the other day with a purple kimono tunic and a yellow cami and they give such a radically different feeling than if I had just worn jeans or black pants. It felt a lot warmer and more springy. Definitely recommend them.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tanya. I actually have really broad shoulders and so have to avoid any sleeve embellishments. I was thinking also since it will be so warm here soon, I will look for something sleeveless, so I can wear it all summer. Thank you!

I am definitely on the hunt for white jeans. I'm thinking seriously about the trouser style pair from J. Crew.

I used to be annoyed about my shoulders, but since coming to this site, I've realized that I was just consistently picking the wrong tops--and so my shoulders always seemed huge. I'm now quite happy with all my proportions (even my short legs!) since figuring out how to dress my body. Thanks Angie and everyone else for all the help and suggestions with that!
