Trying more new trends - YouLookFab Forum

I took advantage of some spectacular sales this weekend, and rounded out my Event, Work, Summer Casual, and the beginnings of my Fall capsules with a few new key, trendy pieces. I posted the new vest (ahem, "waistcoat" *g*) photos last week too, so I don't think there's a trend I'm missing!

White Jeans: hallelujah, after trying on a couple dozen pairs everywhere on the planet Earth, I think I found my white jeans! Got them at Banana Republic -- sadly, they were just about the only things not on sale in the store, but I have had a $50 gift card from my SIL since Christmas that I have been waiting for the right thing to spend it on. According to Shopping Friend and DH, who both gave me the thumbs-up on the jeans, I spent my gift wisely.

The top in that photo is also new; I will have a better shot of it when I post my weekly outfits, but it is a "banded" sweater with sleeveless dolman sleeves, in brown. I put it on and felt soooo slinky and chic!

Dark denim wash jacket: finally picked one up at ON. I buttoned it awkwardly and temporarily in the photo so you can see the fit at the waist; it's hard to otherwise show that when I am holding the camera in one hand.

Cascading cardigan: I think this is more of a loose open cardigan than a cascading one, but I loved it. It's a steel grey, very soft knit from the BR Outlet. I love pairing with the ATL ruffled yellow top. Now I just have to find the right moment/weather to wear it to work!

Long boyfriend cardigan: this was on mega-sale at AT ($29!), and the rich purple color was irresistible. I think this is going to become a staple of my wardrobe all year long. I also picked up that white ruffled-neck sleeveless knit top at Gap; it just looked like the kind of top I will find a million and one uses for.

Here is the boyfriend cardigan belted with a knit dress and long necklace. Perfect for cooler summer days, and with some boots I will be set for fall!

Another casual jersey dress from Target. I don't know why, but I just love the simplicity of this style. It's cheap quality -- my purple one already has a few snags in the fabric, but I love it anyway.

I thought I didn't need an Event dress just yet, and in truth, I think I could throw on my white short-sleeve blazer and wear this to my exec-level meetings at work. But I put this on at Ann Taylor and knew I had to own it -- then seeing the price tag go from $160 to $60 sealed the deal. I call it my Michelle Obama dress, heehee!

Heck yeah! You can pull all of those off.
Even though the pieces are "trends", they still look like you wearing them, not the trend wearing you.

Do I need to pick a fave? White Jeans....cascading cardi....MO dres....

You look great! Of COURSE you can pull these all off! I love the white jeans the best, I think - they fit you so well! BR denim doesn't ever fit quite right for me; I'm glad you found some!

LOVE the cascading cardi and the sheath dress. Amazing! Boyfriend cardi looks wonderful too. That’s an amazing colour against your skin tone. Bravo!

Kristen: Those cardis, especially the cascading one, are delicious. On trend, but also so very flattering. Totally agree with the Michelle Obama comment. You are channeling her fabulousness with that AT dress. The soft casual jersey dresses also look great on you. I say you knocked it out of the park, with some great bargains to boot. Also, though you are touching the trends, these pieces also have a classic sensibility that will serve you well over time.

I'll echo what Chris said "they still look like you wearing them, not the trend wearing you". They're trendy pieces but when you wear them they still look "you"... probably because you picked them out carefully.
The white jeans & the cardis were probably my favorites, but I can't really comment on individual items because I liked them all.

Wow great purchases and not too trendy at all. White jeans, perfect fit. Cute butt, lucky you. Mine left a few years ago, went south. (sad face)
The cascading cardi and the boyfriend cardi are gorgeous. I have already shown that I love the cascading cardigans but I'm also loving your boyfriend cardigan. I like that particular cut a lot. It looks wonderful on it's own but belted it is killer. Great length and the drape is so nice.
The dress is perfect, no doubts. You're looking great. I hope you are done loosing weight because you look just right.

You look great in all of your outfits and I do not even notice whether the items are trendy or not. There is something about your look that remains classic. (but very fashionable)

Kristen, you keep looking smaller with each post. Those white jeans and that great sheath dress ...just everything looks wonderful on you and will carry you into fall if you don't shrink out of them.

I confess that when I looked at the picture of you in that dress, I just couldn't continue thinking about your other outfits (which were also fab!). I just cannot calm down from the dress You are channeling Michelle Obama with great success! You have great arms, and the neckline is soooo flaterring on you.

Eeee, thanks, everyone! So glad everything passes YLF inspection; I didn't want to have to return any of it. It appears I bought most of it just in time; the heat wave broke and now we have regular summer weather so a lot of it will be getting some immediate usage. I am kind of hoping it cools down a little more so I can wear that pruple long cardigan at least once!

I've challenged myself this week to wear at least one new piece every day -- which, considering there is nothing in my closet older than 2 months, isn't that hard. *g* But it's time to start rotating it all in and seeing what goes together.

Angie, oooooh, purple specs. Why do you tease me like that? WHY? So mean. *g* You know I love collecting glasses.

San, Joy and HannahC, I am just two pounds away from goal, which I'm hoping to reach in the next week or so. I will be doing cartwheels when I get there! Then will start the next phase -- learning how to maintain for the long haul, and learning how to wear and mix up the clothes I have instead constantly having to acquire new ones. (Speaking of which, I have a bad feeling I jumped the gun AGAIN on buying pants; the 10s from ATL are suddenly too big in the dupa. Time to dry them in the dryer!)

My sister is printing out the photo of me in the Michelle Obama dress and bringing it to show all our relatives how I've been doing! My cousin is trying MF now too, based on my success and my sister's.

It's my job to push your envelope, Kristen :0). If you wear specs daily, there are ALWAYS opportunities!
