True confession: I bought some shoulder pads

True confession: I just bought a pair of removable shoulder pads. Although I still have emotional scars from the Great Shoulder Pad Epidemic of the '80s, I just think I look better in clothes when I have a bit of padding on my wimpy shoulders. I don't know how many of my clothes they'll work with, but I'm going to give them a whirl. Are there any other Secret Shoulder Pad Users out there who want to come forward? Confession -- it's good for the soul!

I've been looking for some online. I don't want the kind that fit around bra straps--I want some smallish pads to sew into a jacket that needs them. So many of the fabric stores have closed that it is a pain. The nearest one is miles away and is out of my way. I may end up taking them out of another jacket I rarely wear.

If anyone knows of a source for sew in pads online, please let me know.

I kind of liked the shoulder pad 80s. Not in sweaters and not gigantic, but it was easier to find dresses with enough fabric on top to fit well in the bust.

I LOVED my '80s shoulder pads. And todays version - "sharp shoulders" - are great too.

Are sharp shoulders still in? The exaggerated ones? Because I have a velvet blazer...

Shoulder pads became popular in the '80's for a reason! Many women found that faking a stronger shoulder line made their clothes look better and made for a more flattering silhouette. I, on the other hand, was one to use a seam ripper to remove them from everything I bought because I was blessed (cursed?) with linebacker shoulders. But if they work for you, I think they're a great idea.

A good friend with narrow sloped shoulders wears shoulder pads that are foam pieces that are tucked under the bra straps to keep them in place. You can't really tell that she is wearing shoulder pads but they really make a difference in how her clothing fits and they balance out her hips.

I echo Echo! In the 80's we had a pile of shoulder pads near the sewing area, ripped out by my IT sister, and mum and I, who aren't IT, but do have strong shoulders. I did wear them with jackets, just not blouses and t-shirts.

But nothing wrong with wearing them, especially if it helps with sloping shoulders.

I'm hoping the ones I ordered are just enough to look natural. I don't think the linebacker look would work on me, although I do admire a strong set of shoulders. I just want a little tweak for my shoulder line, to balance everything out. And I hope they stay in place better than the ones they're replacing. They were supposed to adhere to the skin, but instead they crawled down my back! Not a good look at all.

I love shoulder pads , but was happy when small, more flexible ones came on scene. Just a hint, for me, is best, not because shoulders are big but because it looks sort of " enhanced natural" and doesnt give that funny look in the sleeve. For years I kept some very slim soft foam shoulder pads with Velcro strip on top and either put in matching strips or for some sweaters the pad stayed in place by itself.

I've sewn small ones into the shoulders of jackets to make them sit better on my weak shoulder line. They also lift up the armhole a bit which is helpful since my upper body is quite short.

I'm not a secret shoulder pad wearer but I want to be! I'll be watching to see how these work for you. I could definitely use some help. I remember doubling my shoulder pads back in the day!!

Yes, how well I remember the doubling, and even sometimes tripling, so they were almost up to your ears. It just got crazy with all the shoulder pads back in the days of yore. Nobody wants to see that again, I'm sure!

If it makes your clothes look better, go for it.
I usually remove all shoulder pads, even from blazers.
I'm tall and even though my shoulders aren't particularly broad for my height, they are broader than "norm-height" woman's. They are also straight, not sloping so I don't feel I need them.

Hey, maybe I should get all of you who are ripping out those shoulder pads to ship them to me. You could claim it as a charitable contribution in support of the shoulderless, hee hee!
