Tried on ATL items

I did some window shopping at ATL for fun today. I tried on shorts (no pictures), pants and skirts.

I am unsure about the shape/length of the capris. I am an hourglass with pear tendencies, so shorts and capris are hard for me. I know I need a longer top for these, but otherwise...

I also tried on a floral pencil and floral pleated a-line. The pencil was too high cut for me I think. It accentuated my monthly bloat, terribly. The a-line is a gorgeous piece but I think it might be too puffy for my shape.

Lastly I tried on the navy eyelet jacket, and it is GORGEOUS!! I would probably purchase one size up from the one I tried on, and I would wear it with a cami or tank, not the black shirt pictures. But I must have it! :)

I think the capris are out--not because you're a pear, but because the length makes them unflattering, and they would be unflattering on most people I think. I think walk shorts or clams are pretty universally flattering. If clams are too skinny for your comfort, stick to walk shorts. This length is making you look a bit squatter than you really are.

As for the pencil skirt, I actually think it's not high enough and that's why you're getting the accentuation where you don't want it (though I don't think it looks nearly as bad as you think). Pencil skirts really have to hit at the natural waist, IMO. The A-line skirt seems a little long to me, but if it were shorter it might look too little-girlish. I think you would look great in a more structured A-line skirt or a high-waisted pencil skirt though.

It's kind of hard to see the eyelet jacket since it's black on black, but it seems like a keeper and you obviously love it.

Yup, I'm with Maya. The capri length is rarely ever a good choice; long pants or clamdiggers/walk shorts will be more flattering in most cases.

I like the eyelet jacket! Do you really need a bigger size? It's hard to see on the photo, but what I see looks real cute.

I hear you, Kendra. I have a hard time finding summer shorts/pants too. If you wait a month or two the stores will probably be full of shorter summer pants. It might be too early to have much variety right now.

Angie's two posts about clamdiggers and walk shorts really helped me figure out why I hated pictures of myself in the mid-calf length capri pants and define what length of pant to look for (and what type of top to wear with them):

Last summer I bought two slightly more dressy walking shorts at Target (black and a subtle tan plaid) that I actually wore to work a couple times with heels, but were wonderfully cool for hot summer days. I also found a pair of slim denim clamdiggers at Ann Taylor on clearance mid-summer. I'm sure they'll come out with more this year.
