Too old for tie dye?

Since I became a mom and turned thirty all at once, I have started wondering whether I should shift my style from boho-eclectic stuff to more sophisticated. One ill advised late night shopping spree, I snagged a tie dye tank top which I loved but now am wondering whether I am too old to wear.

When is one too old to wear tie-dye? Will I look like a leftover from the hippie days? Should I keep or return this?

You're never too old for tie-dye, dear. I've got well over a decade on you in terms of age and I wore tie dye jeans yesterday.

It's all in how you style it. For example, try this under a white blazer, semi-tucked, with either white or BF jeans and white (or colored) loafers. Super stylish and age appropriate, imho

We'll I don't know your style so it's hard to say. What I do know, is that at 30 you can absolutely wear this top:). Really it's how we wear things and I could actually see a couple of our 50 something's rocking this top. If you love it, wear it and enjoy:)

Sage advice already.
Most items can be worn at any age with proper styling. In my mid 50s, I still wear the occasional mini dress. I wear them as tunics with leggings.
The cute top you posted would look quite different worn with flared denim or white skinnies vs daisy dukes.
Also, a search for sophisticated boho on pinterest might be worthwhile. You can be both.

I can see this with top paired with white pants and a denim jacket if you have a very very casual life style. That said, if changing your style direction from boho to sophisticated is a style goal of yours, then tie dye is not the right direction.

No, you're not too old, and if you're only 30, you can't possibly look like a leftover from hippie days. Nothing says that having a child has to change your style.

That said, I'm going to vote return, just because you asked the question, and because you're wondering about "sophisticated." Since it sounds like tie-dye is your comfort zone and you were shopping on a whim anyway, why not use the tie-dye money on a wildcard purchase that's out of your comfort zone, more in the sophisticated category (whatever that means for you), just as an experiment?

I saw the thread title and thought it would be a post from someone older than me (I'm turning 49 this year). And I was thinking, as long as you style it so you don't look like you're still trying to follow the Grateful Dead around. But you're so young! So I'll say, as long as you don't style it so you look like you're following Phish around.

Kidding aside, I see what Liz is saying because if you're trying to shift your style from boho to a more sophisticated look, this piece may be more of a challenge than a help. What about a colorful piece that uses a print other than tie-dye?

So I think the question is not "are you too old" (the answer to that is no), but "is this piece serving your style goals or hindering them?"

I can't think of too many styles for which 30 is too old This stule and the colors do read as young but YOU are young! If you really want to move toward more sophisticated, this probably isn't the best pick but it's a cute option for summer, especially with white.

I have a cardigan with a tie dye pattern (I'm 52!) but it's black and white.

Thanks for saying I am not too old, I am really fond of tie dye and all hippie-dippy stuff. I think I will keep this tank, still since I'm currently a sahm and have a very casual life style.
But I like the thought about purchasing more sophisticated pieces which are not in my comfort zone, Liz, and you're right, tie-dye is my comfort-zone.
I purchased a pair of white linen pants and intended to pair these together! No jackets or toppers, it's very warm here!!

I like the idea of tie dye and white pants...The sophisticated white paired with the fun tie dye gives a SAHM a flair...Post pictures...

I think rachylou is right - perhaps tie dye is too old for you! But I agree with everyone, it's all in how you style it. If you want to move in a more sophisticated direction but still keep the boho vibe a bit, you could look for a top that's tie dye but in only one color rather than multicolored like the one you posted.

There is nothing wrong about liking boho looks at any age... If you still feel like you in more sophisticated looks you could add some for variation of course.

I am 48 and fully embrace all my sides and can rock a gorgeous Calvin Klein dress with pointed toe pumps when going to business events with DH, but when being me I love embracing my fun , boho, playful side...
