Today's Purchases - YouLookFab Forum

I went out to do some much needed clothes-shopping today. I usually hate shopping, and I tend to make a few mistake purchases every once in a while because I get tired and just settle for whatever is in reach (well, practically).

Today I spent nearly 2 hours going in and out of stores and trying clothes on. I even had a list with things to purchase and came away with only 3 items. BUT... now I'm not sure they were good purchases or not.

1 of the things on my list was a summer day dress. I haven't worn dresses since I was 11, so this was definitely YLF inspired! I was going for a casual knit dress, but it seemed that every single one of them was either cut too low, not to my taste or completely out of my price range. And then I found this:

(ignore the wrinkles - haven't washed/ironed it yet. Please ignore what I'm wearing on my feet too)

Is it too dressy for day to day wear? Is it too short?
I thought it fit perfectly. The only problem is that I feel a bit uncomfortable with it now since it seems so different to what I originally had in mind! Any ideas on how to wear a dress like this will be very much appreciated!

Leggings would perhaps make the dress casual for day time i also see it with a belt? x

I love that dress as is, or w/leggings. Not too short to my eye, and the cadi is cut too!! Raining??? Where are you...heat stroke here in California.

@ Loulou - I also see it with a belt.The waistline is perfectly defined without it, but it'd be nice to change it up with belts especially since they're also something new to me!

@ Taylor - I'm in northern Portugal and we've been having some crazy weather lately. Temperatures have been cooler than normal.

@ Angie - thank you for telling me it's day appropriate, I was fearing I'd have to return it!

@ Rute - the dress did fit perfectly, I was quite amazed because I'm usually hard to fit (because I'm short AND thin)

Do you ladies think I could wear this dress in cooler weather by adding layers, or would that look awful?

Layering with the dress in cooler weather would be fabulous. I LOVE that dress -- so very cute and versatile.

I agree with Kirten, you can layer the dress.. it's so in!! You can use leggings or opaque tights (black is too strong for this dress, maybe grey) and a cardigan.

That dress looks great on you, and I think it would lend itself perfectly to layering...and that cardigan- i love it! so simple and yet so adorable with the sleeves and the detailing on the bust!

I love the dress. You could definitely layer it with a cardigan/tights/booties in the fall/winter. Fits you very well.

I love your purchases! The dress looks great on you - I've been eyeing a dress with a similar styling - I think it will be great for day, and perhaps you could dress it up for a smart casual evening? The bell sleeves on the cardigan are a great detail - it's perfect!

I'm saving this topic to my computer so I can reread your positive feedback when I'm feeling most self-conscious about wearing the dress.

What a great find! You will be able to change the look of the dress easily with accessories. What is the fabric of the dress?
I was just looking at a fashion magazine today that used a basic dress like this and layered under the dress. They showed it with a striped knit top and with a buttondown shirt. A turtleneck under it would also work. You can also add a long scarf especially when the weather is colder.
