Finding the items you need at the right price

Tips for glasses and Seattle area stores

1. I'm shopping for reading glasses. I would love to have something that works for me. Do you have any tips for what types of things you should and should not look for in glasses?
2. Any recommendations for great Seattle area stores for those of you who are local?
3. These are reading glasses but I need to have them handy, so if anyone has tips on how they do it practically, I'd love to hear that too.
Thanks much!

Sihaya - I just got reading glasses. I used an old pair of frames that I already had and had new lenses put in to make them reading glasses. I usually just use them when I am sitting down doing a lot of reading or desk work at home or at work. I don't pull them out just to read a menu because it's a hassle. But I do like them when I am doing close work for any length of time because it so much easier on my eyes. I went to 4 Your Eyes Only in Wallingford Center -- they were able to calculate from my regular prescription to make the reading glasses prescription. Angie suggested several shops and people on the thread about new specs for Sarbear's mum.

Thanks AJ. I'll search on Angie's thread. It's soon getting to the point where I will need it consistently for menus so I am looking for portable solutions where I can whip the glasses out without much fuss.

Hi Sihaya, I don't need reading glasses yet (though my optometrist told me it's a matter of time) so I can't speak to that but here are the recos for stylish glasses stores:

-Ottica
-Eye Society
-Market Optical

Have fun!

Sihaya - I just started looking for stylish reading glasses for my hubby and I know that Market Optical carries some. Here's a brand that I thought looked interesting:

I too am just starting to need them, so I thought I might check them out as well!

I finally got around to getting my new frames. I strongly recommend Eye Society in Bellevue. Gila, there was excellent. She followed all of Angie's guidelines in her blog post and first started with asking questions about my lifestyle and wardrobe. And was extremely helpful at choosing the right pieces. Very, very helpful and I love my new glasses.

This post was timely since I have an eye exam next week and will be needing new specs. I'll be heading over to Eye Society!
