Tinting brows/lashes

I'm about to make an appointment to tint my brows and lashes - for only $8 I have no reason not to, when I spend more than that on a light brown mascara and brow filler. have blonde lashes and brows, and I like to look naturally made up so lightly filling my brows and a quick sweep of mascara seem to help. Does anyone have experience with this? I know it's been OK'd by YLF, but I'm wondering what happens and how long the results might last. Any input would be great!

I have no experience of tinting brows but I have had my eyelashes dyed. Although the colour was great (blue/black) I have such fine eyelashes that I required mascara to thicken them.

For $8 you can't lose and I hope you are satisfied with the results.

I have been doing this myself for 15 years!

My Mum does this, it always looks amazing. She is not blonde but her lashes are very short and sparse, and she hates fussing with makeup. It looks really natural. I think her salon recommends that she come every 6 weeks to have it re-done, but she gets away with 8.

For only $8.. go for it!

Will do - is it recommended to go a shade darker than my hair, or the same color?

I'd go darker, LE. Even the blackest tint dosn't look THAT dark when it's only eyelashes... my mum gets the darkest colour they have and it looks 100% natural, not even like she's wearing much makeup. Keep in mind that it might look very different at first, but it fades to a more "natural" look after a day or so.

Go darker FOR SURE. I mix black and brown and I'm very blonde.

I have never heard of this. Angie you do this at home? Wow. I guess I've been under a rock. I don't think it would work for me because I have short thin eyelashes and my brows are getting more sparse all the time, but I would absolutely LOVE to not have to wear mascara or brow powder.
Does this work for people like me? Should I ask the hairstylist about this?

Angie, how do you do this yourself? Do share if you don't mind! I have paid up to $30 a pop for this and it fades quickly on me. Would love to know your secret!

My lashes are thin and sparse and actually losing pigment these days. I have been ponderig getting them colored. I'd love details on how this works.

I've also seen lots of ads for latisse...a RX you get through your doctor...that apparently encourages lash growth. I am dubious though.

Angie, I am wondering if I reading your sentence wrong.

I could take it as you do it "as well" or you do it "yourself"...if you truly do it yourself at home, I would love to know how to do it. But I have had it done and can't imagine it could be a DIY project!

San, yes ask your hairstylist. I had it done back in the late 80s and loved it, but haven't done it since. I might have to investigate that...I have permanent eyeliner, so why not?

Both, Susan. I do it too, and I do it myself – at home. Have been dying my lashes and brows myself for 15 years. I have thick lashes and brows, but they are not as dark as I would like them, so enter tinting! It’s impossible to write a description of the steps I'm afraid. Sorry :0(. You need to see someone do it and try it yourself.

Never tinted my lashes but I have tinted my brows before and loved it. Not sure why I didn't keep up with it. I just use brown eye shadow to darken my brows now. I say go for it (and $8 is a killer price!)

San, I think this would work really well for you. I haven't done it myself but both my mum and sister do this, and it sounds like my mum has similar lashes to yours. They're dark, but thin, short and rather sparse, and she HATES wearing mascara. It works really well for her. My sister is more like Angie- long and thick lashes, but blonde. (I am lucky as I seem to have the best of both worlds;)

OMG I would LOVE to figure this process out for a DIY deal at home! What a way to simplify my life!

If anyone knows how to do this or can point me in the direction of a tutorial I would be so grateful!

Sounds like a life-changing beauty tip! I would love not taking off mascara each night!

Me too. I do not like mascara!!

Wow, I have never heard of this either (and obviously having black lashes and brows don't need to worry about it) but it makes so much sense! I have a good friend who is a very pale blond but I have only ever seen her with makeup (mascara & eyeliner) and so I was shocked when seeing her hospital post-partum photos - I had no idea what an impact contrast & definition can make! I hardly recognized her.

I saw an ad for Latisse at my dermatologists office. One of the side effects sounds kind of scary - apparently if you have blue eyes, it can make them permanently brown.
