Tights with slouchy boots: color questions

After seeing Dani's recent thread, and Angie's blog, I got to thinking. I have two sweater dresses that I think would work with the slouchy boot look (they are not quite sackless -but *I think* would have the right vibe and length). One dress is black....

And one is purple:

My slouchy boots are chestnut Star Ling's:

My question is about tights, because it is getting nippy here now, so I don't think bare legs are going to work for much longer. What color tights would you wear with the two dresses above?

Hmmm. Interesting question. Maybe tights the same color as the dress? I'll be really interested to see what others say.

With the black dress, I'd wear black textured tights/stockings. Either microfishnet, or some other interesting pattern. If you go with tights, maybe some that have a vertical ribbing or pattern. In Angie's recent blogpost, she is wearing a black Theory sheath dress with microfishnet stockings and chestnut slouchy boots:

The purple dress is a bit more tricky. I like Alecia's idea of matching tights to the color of the dress, much like you have in the photo you posted. What about tights that match the color of the boots? Also, black patterned tights or stockings might work.

I completely agree with Ana. I also think that nude fishnets would work with both dresses.

I think both dresses would work great with those boots. What about dark grey textured tights for the second one? Or maybe you could find a right shade of brown.

BTW, I wore my Star Lings with tights, and got a ton of snagging where the top of the boot hits my leg (on the inside). Not sure if it has something to to with my walking, or it's the stitching, but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and what can be done about it.

Marianne, perhaps try this - apply where it's snagging?

Tanya, I don't own any nude fishnets. It's on my shopping list. That could work. Any recommendations for brands to try? I actually don't think I've ever seen nude fishnets in the stores (although it could be because I wasn't seeking them out).

Ana, thanks for reposting Angie's blog. I did read that, but I guess I didn't study the photo close enough. I think this works because Angie is wearing a gold necklace, which ties it all together? Hmmm.

I agree the purple is more tricky. The tights I was wearing in that pic, exactly match the color of the dress, which was more of a fluke. I got them at AT, when trying to replace a pair of hose that more closely matched the color of the boots. Unfortunately the AT hose ran the second time I wore them. Grrr.I never thought they were quite right with that outfit though... and even if they were, I think it will be hard to find a replacement.

I think I will give nude fishnets a whirl for the purple dress.

When I wore fishnets on Thursday, I was really surprised that they kept my legs fairly warm (compared to bare legs). I am still wondering why that is.

I think it's something to do with a bubble of air being trapped in each hole. Think i originally heard this in relation to mens holey vests but guess the same applies to fishnets x

I third Ana's suggestions. That was going to be my answer to you too.
