Tights

Ok, here is my outfit today. For those who didn't read today's blog entry and the accompanying comments: Angie discussed bright tights, and suggested that they can easily look jarring or juvenile. I incidentally wore relatively bright tights today, and wanted to put in a good word for the look :-)

Comments welcome - I assure you I won't be offended if the look doesn't meet with approval. I enjoyed my red and black patterned legs but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

(The actual tights are these: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....chresults)

I just love the whole outfit. It's very you and the tights make it playful and funny. With any other tights it would look too serious. I think it's cute, and not in a juvenile way.

I really like the outfit Antje! I personally would never have the confidence to pull them off, but I think you do and I enjoy seeing them on you.

OMGoodness...How cute are you!!! You pulled those tights together with that outfit perfectly!!

I love this look--and don't think it's the same look that Angie blogged about today. The argyle pattern keeps it funky, and the red isn't as bright as the colors in Angie's post.

It works wonderfully for you. I love your choice of tights.

Totally fun and funky outfit -- very you! I love how the flower picks up the red of the tights. You've demonstrated that it is possible to wear brightly colored tights and look fab.

You completely manage to make this look work with the shade of the red tights and the flower and YOU. Love it!

Thanks for the pics, but I am having trouble seeing the tights! How did the rest of you manage? Must be something wrong with my computer screen.

If the pic is true to life, than Antje you get away with the look. The tights aren’t bright. Also the argyle adds a textural dimension. You look adorable.

Sorry about the bad picture, Angie! I feared it was kinda dark, which is why I included the link to the tights on the Nordie's site. They are somewhat bright.

I thought some more about why the look works in some outfits but not others, and I'm thinking it has to do with the contrast between the tights, shoes and skirt. E.g., for my tights I would not have chosen a black skirt - I think it would have looked more jarring or "clownish". Somehow the denim skirt softens the contrast and makes the tights less of a focal point. Similarly, I'd pair fuchsia tights (which I might be interested in getting) with a dark grey/charcoal skirt rather than a black one, I think it would work better. Does that make sense? It's just an intuition, I cannot really articulate the why.

I am late chiming in but LOVE the look on you Antje, you can get away with funky looks that many cannot. Your hairstyle and glasses complete the look.

I like these tights on you, Antje. I think the pattern adds interesting texture and the tights don't look bright in the pic anyway. I also agree with your reasoning about the denim skirt. I think you pull it off very well :)

I've been considering teal or dark green tights for some time now. I'll see if I can try some.

Antje, I love this look! I think you are right about the denim or gray skirt, instead of black. But also, I think the black of the argyle pattern somehow looks like an extension of your black boots, if that makes sense?

You've articulated your points well Antje and Shiny. The denim skirt was an all important ingredient and the argyle does in fact look like an extension of your boots. Well done!

Antje, I love it when you post photos. You have such a wonderfully defined, uniquely "Antje" style, and always manage to add an interesting twist. I like the tights, too. Fab!

Oh cool. I'm happy my tights meet with approval :-) And thanks for the nice compliments. Kyle, some of my "interesting twists" I definitely pick up from this forum. Tomorrow I'm copying one of yours: the belted denim jacket. I hope it'll work; I'll post a picture tomorrow nite. I am quite bored with my wardrobe right now because I haven't bought anything new in a while and have been mostly recycling the combinations I put together in October... So I actually started the new year with a fashion resolution of being more creative and really trying new combos leveraging the items I have rather than going out and buying something new when I need a "fresh" outfit. All you fab ladies here help with that so much, I love that we can be "copy cats" and pick up new tricks!
