I found this jacket that was nearly twice my monthly mortgage on sale for less than my car payment at the Rack.
It's Robert Rodriguez, and all leather. I do think it is "me" and fits my work wardrobe quite nicely.
And although I do live where it's warm, the jacket is not thick or stiff at all, in fact it feels more like silk.
But would it be more realistic to put the monies towards my dominant season?
What do you think?

Wow that's still a lot of money, but it's pretty awesome! It looks like a good fit and the color is gorgeous on you. Of course you could wear it for non-work occasions too. I guess I would make the decision based on if I really needed a work coat vs. how my spring/summer/hotter than hades wardrobe is shaping up!

OMG, Sarah, this is just soooooo incredible. This is a tough one It is you . My first question is what size is it ( not for me of course ) LOL !

How often is it cool enough, in the morning, in the evening for you to wear this ? Does it dovetail well with your other warmer jackets or do you have more than you wear already? And, with you not knowing what your next job will be, will you need any of this money for a work wardrobe ? Are you well stocked for you primary climate ? ( From following you on your site, you seem well-stocked for whatever you do next, IMO )

This is a tough one for me.......I say if you can afford it and you wear it a few times a year, keep it.

Sarah, I suspect that you might tire of the poufy sleeves and side seam ruffle. As beautifully made as the coat is (I have seen it IRL), I vote return. Not only is it for your imaginary climate, but I don't think it's fab enough at best. This is very subjective of course, but in my book this is not a 10 for TXSarah's KILLER style.

I understand how seduced one can be by an item like this. Truly!

I fully support your recent cropped leather jacket purchase. THAT is a 10.

Without looking at the other comments, I think those strong shoulders are going to date really quickly for such an investment piece. It's really cool, but with the prices you sound like you're talking about, it doesn't seem like the best bet to me. Just my opinion.

Well, I love the poufy sleeves, but the body doesn't fall that sleekly - and I think of leather trenches as sleek at their best.

Still, I'd probably keep it because it's a lot of fun.

The shoulders/sleeves would be a deal-breaker for me; especially if I already had another leather jacket. (Haven't seen it, but I'm sure it is killer, according to Angie!)

I have slightly poufy sleeves on a recent purchase (Ann Taylor jacket; it's dark so I didn't even notice the sleeves immediately). BUT it was so cheap, and the pouf wasn't bad, and I could live with it. Anything leather (which also means, unalterable) and pricey = serious consideration. I think you're in love with the rich, creamy color. Probably listen to the spanners? Oh, and the not your climate thing is definitely an influence here.

My eye went right to the shoulders, too. Here's something useful I read not long ago:
just because something has a feature - the very soft, fluid leather - that you really love doesn't meant you have to keep it and wear it, when it's otherwise not great for you.

This is a gorgeous coat and color on you. But if it's not for your dominant season it's just going to sit. Too often I have purchased items I love but I never get to wear. Even if you aren't wearing an item, you still see it in the closet and can still tire of it. I vote return and on to something fab that you can wear now in your climate instead.

Sadly, I'm going to agree with the spanners and vote return. It's the combo of the trendy sleeves and the not-your-dominant-season issue. But, I can totally relate to finding something so exquisite at the RACK and wanting so badly for it to work out!!

I live in a coat climate. I have a very nice custom long brown leather coat. I spent a lot getting it altered to my current size. I still haven't worn it.

Sarah, it's a beautiful coat, but I'd put those hard-earned pennies toward something you'd get a lot of wear out of and that makes you feel just as spectacular.

I hate to pile on, but those poufy sleeves seem like they'd date quickly on a leather jacket (for some reason they seem to me like they'd be more acceptable on a cotton blazer/jacket). That and the climate make me vote return.

Sarah I thought similar to Angie. I love the jacket and it looks so fabulous on you:) However my concern is the shoulders of the jacket. Will you tire of this feature and do you think this might date the jacket quite quickly? Just two questions i would have to ask myself... don't get me wrong I LOVE the coat... but it is a considerable expenditure so you would want to be sure that you see this playing long term in your wardrobe.
