Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Thoughts on this raincoat

For some reason, I am really attracted to this waterproof raincoat :

It looks sturdier to me then my new cream trench and less likely to get damaged in long rains we certainly have her.

What are your thoughts on this? And do you think it would be to much to get it now that I have the cream trench? Thanks!

Tanya, I really like it. The color is very nice. I think you would definitely wear this one in worse weather than you would your cream trench. Do you have any other rain coats? I don't think two would be unusual for your area. The price is nice, so I say get it if it fits what you're looking for. If you already have three other coats then I say hold off and spend you money on other items on your wishlist :)

gorgeous! i want one now too :)

Love it! And the sale price is actually quite reasonable, so if it fits a hole in your wardrobe, I say go for it.

Ah, thanks ladies! I'll give it some more thought, but might actually get it. As I've sad in the past, it's not difficult to make a frog jump into water :)

In addition to the new cream trench, I currently also own a very old black trench too, which is very thin, unlined and quite worn, it has some issues than need fixing, but I like it too much to let go of it yet:

So this navy one as a third one would be reasonable, right ? :)

Sounds perfectly logical to me...RIBBIT...splash :)

:) Hey Tanya...great saphire trench. Do you know if it's lined or how warm it will be? If it is lined and can be worn on a 40-50 degree day, then I think it would be ideal for our climate. But if it is unlined, then I'd probably pass on it. Unlined jackets like that will get clammy on the inside, and we don't really have too many warm rainy days that justify that kind of coat. Most of rainy days are chillier, don't you think?

Great colour but too much shine. I’ve seen it firsthand and I think you’ll be disappointed, Tanya. You can't wear this trench with your patent boots. Nicole has a point about the lining. Perhaps wait till you find something else? I know you'll find a fab alternative :-)

Thank you for telling me what you saw Angie. I'll take a pass then. I would have not have worn it with my patent boots anyway, that would have been too much.

I am trying to build a rainy day mini-wardrobe for here. The cream trench and patent boots are for lighter rain conditions. I am going to order those yellow Tretorn wedge wellies I linked to in a past at some point in the early fall and am sort of looking for a serious raincoat to go with those. This second set should serve for heavy rain, and colder weather, so ideally I would need a raincoat that's completely waterproof, lined and warm for 40-45 as Nicole mentioned, and a bit cute too. I thought this one might fit the bill but I'm happy you have informed me what it's really like. I am not on a serious hunt for this raincoat, it's more of a 'if I stumble upon something appropriate and affordable-I'll get it' thing.

Thank you all once again.

Oh yes! The wellies. I wear wellies too. Fun! I’m familiar with rainy weather. Now, will you carry an umbrella?

Posted 1 year ago

Yes, I certainly will carry an umbrella, and I plan to get one or two nicer ones this fall. For the yellow wellies, I'll get this umbrella:

I am not sure if it will work with cream trench/black patent boots combo, but I'm on the lookout for the second fun print ( possibly another Marimekko). I also have my eye on this rain hat :

although it would be probably too much to wear with the black patent boots, but it will go well with the future yellow wellies.

Oooh, Tanya. I was eying that Boden hat in red. I still haven't decided if it would be practical for Austin. I bought a yellow umbrella with white polka dots at J. Crew. They sometimes have nice umbrellas with fun prints.

Glad you like the hat too Ana. I haven't thought to check out J Crew for fun umbrella's , but I'll certainly do it. Yours sounds like a lot of fun!

If you carry an umbrella Tanya, why do you need a waterproof raincoat?

Posted 1 year ago

Because even with umbrella I somehow always end up pretty wet, especially from the waist-to-knees area. I don't know how I do it, but I manage; my mom always says that I have an incredible talent to mess myself up :) It could have to do with longish walk (~30 min) in the heavy rain with the Boston wind. The coat does not really need to be waterproof ( water-resistant might work as well) but it would certainly be a plus; since I am always wet and cold and freezing in the rain .

This same thing happens to me, Tanya. Austin has lots of thunderstorms, and the rain blows so that umbrellas aren't practical. That's partly why I want all my calf high boots to be La Canadienne, because my lower legs always get completely soaking wet and cold.

I hear you! *chuckle*

You might need to wait a wee while for the right one to come along. I know you’re on the scent.

Posted 1 year ago

I will certainly wait Angie! One thing with YLF is that it has made me have higher criteria about stuff I purchase, I can no longer satisfy myself with a "will do" item, I am now actually hunting for perfect ones only. I am very thankful to you and the forum for that.

That’s music to my ears, Tanya. We should not settle for OK. Items have to be great. I’m happy you’re happy :-)

Tanya, have you seen autumn collection of Zara? It's really fabulous and has such a raincoat selection from black, brown to dusty pink, salmon. Maybe something will steal your heart;-))

The Marimekko umbrellas are fun, aren't they. Have you ever heard of Radley, Tanya? It's a British company that also makes good quality umbrellas. They have quite a few great ones:

(I have the black one with the daisies)

Their site only shows a few of their designs, and they don't ship outside of the UK, but if you Google them you should be able to find American stores that sell them. And be sure to check out eBay as well (eBay.co.uk too, they often ship internationally). A few weeks ago, there were many new Radleys available.)
