I am seeing this type of V neck everywhere here in Australia this summer. It features a V neckline with a neck band. I noticed a similar version in Angie's finds. I am personally not a big wearer of V necks (I don't fit most of the body descriptors mentioned in Angie's post) but I feel this particular version is one I could wear because of the neck band and the small V cut out. I think it is pretty and a bit retro. For true lovers of V necks, you can also get versions that have a deeper and larger "V" cut out. What do people think of it?

I'm on the fence for myself - I haven't tried one on, but leaning toward liking it. I could see this being flattering for people. It looks fresh. I went through a choker phase way back when, but haven't tried on the style in a long time. This seems to incorporate the choker into the top.

I agree with that. It's a choker effect. I think it would be easier to wear than a choker. Is it a 70's look? I also remember cut outs being popular in the late 80s/early 90s.

I had a knit top with this neckline about nine-ten years ago. I liked it but it depends how the necktie sits.

I do like a vee neck as long as they are not too gapey but I like this variation on it too, can see you in the blouse!!

Sally, I am seeing knit and woven versions here. I think a knit version would be less likely to gape. The bigger the V, the bigger the gape potential!

I saw one of these when I walked through WHBM on the weekend. I didn't try it on but thought it looked like an interesting variation of a v-neck which I love.

Does this style have a name? I have two tops like this - both too formal for my actual life (as opposed to my fantasy life of art gallery openings and fancy cocktail parties!). They were purchased solely because I found the neckline to be so amazingly flattering.
I hope they will be everywhere here in the US soon - I'd happily buy a dozen!

Ryce, it needs a name! The only descriptions I have seen describe it as V neck with neck band. Very unglamorous title for a glam neckline.

While I don't know that I could wear it (weird emotional issue with things being around my neck too snugly/closely), I think those are pretty good and I would enjoy seeing them on ladies

I like the one on the left, but would have to see it on to know if it's too low. The one on the right looks like it's a choker all right! It looks too tight or too high on the neck. I'm not sure.

Yes, I agree that how it feels around the neck is important.
I just tried on one that had a very deep V. It was comfortable but perhaps not work appropriate. It did make me feel like Faye Dunaway in The Towering Inferno, so that's a plus.

I can see you in it and I like it. I had a sweater kind of like this - well the cross piece was really a tie. One of my go-to's when I had it.

Brooklyn I have few of the v-neck body descriptors (I have a moderate neck, not a long neck) and so only shallow v-necks, collared v-necks or this particular one speak to me. I also love this look, but as a girl of the 90's, I do like chokers very much! As you have model proportions, I think most, if not all looks would work on you. So if this is a look you like, I say go for it!

I think this and similar cutout neck styles are really gaining momentum. Kind of taking over where asymmetric left off? I like the sleeveless version especially and agree it kind of subs for a necklace.

I'm not on the forum much, but I love your outfits and can totally see you in this style! I love the blue one. I'm an IT, so I love v-necks--since the neckline is quite open, I am hoping the choker won't negate the advantages of the V. I could really use this blouse!

I love this -- at least your custom find version. Not the blue one as much. I'd wear your Find in a hot second, and it would look stunning on you!

Suz, the smaller cut out style would be a good option for you too.
Thanks everyone for the input and the kind words. I am taking this is as a thumbs up subject to comfort issues and gaping. I don't think gaping will be a problem with the version that I favour. It will be interesting to see whether this style makes itself known in the northern hemisphere this summer. It does seem to be trending here.

I hadn't noticed this neckline but will notice it now!
My daughters are enjoying wearing choker necklaces, so this might be a version I could try.

I see it in the EU, too, but not really a fan for myself(thus, not yet tried on personally)-but am afraid the choker band will be too constricting on the neck. I don't have a thick neck, but still...(?)

Thanks Lyn. I tried a couple of different styles last week. The knit versions feel like wearing a turtleneck. So if you are ok with that, you should be right. I also tried top no 1 in the finds. It is a woven. It is comfortable. The neck band sits just below my neck. But it does have buttons at the back that are a little tricky to do up. I really like the style. It feels fresh.
