This dress: buy, bargain, or let go?

I just tried this on at the Brooklyn flea. I love it. It's cotton and sleeveless and adorable. But it's $120. It is imported from France from a French designer, and the guy only has 2 sizes left.

If it were $75 I'd go for it, but $120 is crazy. It's so unique and such great quality though.

What do I do?!

Alright, now I can take a couple minutes more. . .$120 is a large amount for a spontaneous purchase. . .it fits you to a T, but in the photo it seems to emphasis your bust. That may just be the photo though, but I know that has sometimes been a consideration.

Love those colors and I am always a fan of great quality - great quality feels so nice to wear.

It has that designer ecletic quality that makes it rather timeless.

I'm going to go back in a few minutes anyway so I'll check. I'll probably let it go if I can't get it down to $75. There is always ebay.

The bust emphasis is coming from both the angle and the fact that I'm wearing 2 layers underneath (no fitting rooms in the flea market).

bargain. maybe take the seller's business card and have reference to him/her after if the dress starts to "haunt" you if you don't buy today. I like the dress -- it's slightly classic but a little quirky too.

If you have layers underneath, then that should make the difference

I had the same concern as MNsara re the chest fit and emphasis. I think it may be a bit of an optical illusion resulting from the pattern. If you have doubts, take the brand/model/style number and search later. $120 could be an expensive impulse buy if it turns out you don't love it.

I think the bust issue is nothing a pendant necklace will not fix. I love the flare of the skirt, the pleat detail and the contrast fabric on the sleeves. As it is cotton it may take some precision ironing, would that stop you from wearing the dress Maya?

Sometimes they will go down so its worth a try, alright! I really think you should get it if you can swing it financially....its better to have one great dress than 2 you dont like as well, and its a piece you can use for a few seasons, I think. Remember 'cost per wear' will bring the price down!

I passed. There were tons of other cute dresses by this designer. I figured one day I'd have enough money and find one that I could really feel confident buying. Unfortunately I could not find anything by this brand online. It's probably more widely available in Europe.

Maya, you did well. It was a fantastic dress but at this price you must take the time to try it without the layers underneath and with bare legs if that is how you envision wearing it.

I think you made the right choice. I understand the appeal of the dress, but I think the high neckline and large print really did overemphasize the bust. I would have liked it better with a more open neckline.

I am familiar with this French brand.

I'm glad you passed on the dress, Maya. Perhaps it looked better irl, but from what I can see from the photo, it was not remotely worth $120.
