This blouse - too trendy?

I would like to get a printed blouse for fall, and I loove this one:

Since with this price tag it's going to be an investment piece for me, is the print, which is very in now, a bit too trendy? What I mean is, will it a few years later, scream fall 2008, with the whole brushstroke winter floral thing?

I have never tried on any Elie Tahari tops, does anyone know how the sizes run? I am usually XS, but sometimes need S ( I'm 32 C).

Since I usually wear solids, I don't know that much about prints. I can say that for the most part, I don't keep track of prints and when they come out. I think I'm pretty typical in this. Unless you're meeting with people who really follow fashion very very closely, I'd say it would probably be fine. I think the color palette is very you.

I'm not sure I helped you at all. Hopefully others will chime in too.

I don't think it's too trendy, though none of us can predict the future. If anything it will always make a great layering piece.

Anyway, at this point, I think anything goes. Fashion from this decade has been all over the place. There is always something for everyone, which makes it much easier to pick and choose trends. That makes me think that things will remain "in style" for a lot longer than in the past. Things from 2000 are certainly still being worn to this day and show no signs of slowing down. Everyone thought skinnies were just a trend, but they seem to be doing pretty well.

I doubt anyone will look at this blouse and say "omg, that's SOOOO 2008!" any time soon unless of course they are obnoxious and irritating, in which case their opinion doesn't really matter anyway.

This print is great with beautiful colors, I didn't even realize that it was very trendy. I think you will get good wear out of this for many years.

I think it looks just like a Tanya blouse and I agree that people don't pay that specific attention to print trends unless they are outrageous. Of course ten years from now we might look at all floral print tops and say "that was so early 21st century!"

I'm just becoming interested in patterns, so I may not be the most objective judge I like this brushstroke print because it's more abstract than cutesy. And look at DVF dresses, I think most of them are considered pretty classic (I may be wrong, however).

As for sizing, I tried one of their dresses last spring and I was between 4-6, mostly due to hips and it was a shift dress. I'm smaller than you on top, my band size is 32, if this helps.

It is a beautiful blouse and would be stunning on you with your new high waist jeans.
I think the print will certainly go out of style and be replaced with something totally different. I don't have a clue how many seasons this could be expected to be relavent but I bet Angie will have an educated guess.
Really I don't think the price is too high for such a quality piece especially if you wear it often enough to bring the price per wear down, and if you love it.
It will be interesting to hear Angie's advice on this.

Maya gave my sentiments exactly. A very pretty Tanya blouse that I cannot see dating!

Their sizing is inconsistent. It might be big on the waist, but give it a bash.

Thank you for your input ladies! I am planning on getting two investment pieces in the beginning of October and this has now made my list of things to try.

I love silk blouses, but most of the available ones are made form silk with nice sheen that seems way to dressy for my lab. So I get very happy when I find a silk-blouse made of non-shiny silk!

Tanya, I'm late to the party but I wanted to add that it's a very Tanya blouse and if it's part of your style then you should be able to get good use out of it for a while. I think the colors are lovely! Can't wait to see it!

Hmmm I don't think this is trendy at all. It looks very classic to me.

I'm not sure how the tops run. I only have one Tahari top and it's a knit size Large.

There is a Tahari boutique in Copley Square. You could go try it on perhaps?

Thanks Dani & Nicole. Nicole, they didn't have the blouse in that boutique, since it is on Bluefly it might be a bit older. I was too tired to try on another shirt, and Angie mentions that the sizing is inconsistent anyway. I won't be ordering it for
another few weeks, but I'll probbaly try XS first.

YOu should order both sizes and just return the one you don't want. Bluefly might not have the size you want later AND they don't do exchanges.

DVF was the first thing I thought; I don't think it will date. And if you loooovvee it and it's calling your name - who cares if it dates?

I also agree with Maya! The fashion revolution is that fashion is all about what fits and flatters YOU individually and personally.... it's not about wearing something just because it's on-trend even if it looks atrocious on you. Yeah for that!

I notice the blouse has 5% spandex - so it will stretch. I'm thinking XS will work.

I view this as a statement piece. If you love it, get it. If you love it on, keep it and wear it forever!

I love the shirt! So pretty and looks like you. I agree with the others -- if you're in love with it, you'll wear it. I don't think its trendy at all. Very pretty.
