Theoretical question: woven vs. python silver boat shoes?

I happened upon a pair of silver boat shoes at the swap meet today. Not my size, unfortunately, but they looked so. dang. cool. in person. The silver is not as shiny as it looks online.

Anyway, I probably won't even try this out unless the white boots I ordered get sent back. But *if*... which one would you pick for me? Woven is cool because it probably gives some ventilation. Python is cool because... hey, python! This would be a sandal alternative to wear like I wear my nude huaraches (pic 3).

To me, this is a glam preppy look which I don't see jibing with your UWP style direction or maybe you have ideas how to make these look Rae? Sorry for coming off as rain on a parade.

I think woven looks more 'boat' to me? I also have to agree with Denise --- this seems unexpectedly luxe yet not quite sleek enough for the Princess part of UWP...

ohh, I see these are being dubbed "glam preppy" or luxe and that explains why *I* liked both and could not chose. Yeah, I think the ladies are right - they're not honest enough for your style. I like a little dose of artifice - those styles are appealing to me exactly because their luxe fabrics make them liars. Would be jarring on you.

I'm not sure about these for you Rae. They are different to what I would normally expect to see you in, but that doesn't mean they won't work for you. I prefer the python. I really think I would need ton see you wearing them to make a fair assessment.

I think they are pretty interchangeable because the main thing is the color and they both have texture, which I think would dictate how you would wear them.

I agree with Scarlet -- they're so similar it would really be a judgment call.

I don't think your UWP persona precludes a "glam preppy" shoe. I could see you rocking these with your short shorts and looking totally cool.

I prefer the look of the woven shoe myself but they are so similar that they should be equally useful with the wardrobe.

I actually do have a big preppy streak in my style, believe it or not. I like subverting the conservative look, if that makes sense. I have a bunch of toppers from Abercrombie, Hollister, and LL Bean and I personally think my sleeveless collared shirts are a bit preppy.

Vildy, I DO see what you mean about them seeming like liars. Like a rugged brown would be more practical and "honest." I will keep that in mind for sure - and I'll think about that when trying on those tall, white, cracked leather boots, too! Something to chew on. The glam-ness is a little less in person for the silver shoes, I'd say. The shine is much more subtle.

I'm going completely against the grain. Boat shoes are 100% within Rae's style persona, and Rae's style might be evolving into a renewed direction. I vote try the style in python.

(Food for thought: Did you ever think that Annagybe would wear pastels, florals, soft lipstick and flats? Well. That's how Anna evolved her look and she is rocking it. Thanks for being a great example, Anna).

This post is making me regret that I left the pewter colored Sperry's at nordstrom rack last week. Such a comfortable shoe! I will have to go back for them at some point. They had a ton of metallics (apparently the glam preppy thing is not big in my area).

Thanks for chiming in, Angie! DH finally articulated that he finds high heels with my shorts a little too overtly sexy. I had agreed with that but it was easier to wear heels for comfort... well, if we are both feeling too sexy, then I guess the answer is to look for *the most comfy flats available*. lol. Narrow footed ladies seem to love these!

Actually, Anna's adventures in flats inspired me, too.

I think I like the python better, too. Had to ask, since I found the woven ones cheaper.

It sounds like you need arch support in flats, Rae. Try them with inserts. These shoes will not offer arch support. Love the bronze.

You could also try lower heels with your short shorts.

Now I like that bronze one for you - and I guess the python, too, if I picture you out on some raft wearing those shoes after you killed and skinned the snakes and sewed up the footwear. (Did you see Prometheus? Man, did that woman turn into a warrior princess - the princess part being mostly that she was pretty and feminine - for the contrast)

I may surprise many to say this, but I realllly don't like flat oxfords for myself. I don't know if it's the fact that they remind me of jazz dance shoes or that the feel too dressy, but I can't do it. :T I will definitely try the inserts, though the adjustable laces on these seemed to give some support as well in the size I tried on.

Hm, the bronze are safer, but the silver are more different from what I already have...

I'd vote for the python, I think they would just wear better. I could see the woven leather looking a bit ratty earlier. Of course I own a woven leather jacket, so uh, well there ya go.

Rae, could you provide the information on the bronze pair please? I really like those and they might be the answer to my question a while back about what shoes to wear when it is summer but too cool for open shoes.

I LOVE my sperry's and I have been wearing them with mostly un-preppy outfits. I'm with Angie in that I could totally see them working with your look, Rae. All the options you've posted are great, but something is pulling me toward the non-woven silver. Maybe it's that I have a silver version (I don't think they're as shiny as the ones you posted) and I wear them everywhere.

I ordered the bronze because I could checkout with Amazon and thus they only cost $40! If I don't love those, I can try the silver later, as there is more stock available. Thanks for the help!

Those are great, it would be hard to choose which one were my favorite. My feet used to ache all of the time but then I got orthotics. No more foot problems. They have different styles that can fit in different shoes. I think Angie is right, all you need is some arch support and then you will be comfy in flats.

You know I love them and have been waffling on buying some. I saw some rose gold (light copper - not too pink) ones at the Rack which might also be more nude on you. I would also worry the woven would peel on the edges (the silver) with wear (but there are silver sharpies now)
