Angie's blog today and Suz's love of stripes mentioned in the discussion on patterns today both brought to mind something about stripes. I
have a love/hate thing with stripes. I am attracted to them, but can't deal with the high contrast visual part of most stripes (or other patterns for that matter).
I've learned over time that I have strong preference for navy or medium blue and white stripes with low contrast designs. I once had a favorite olive green and lighter green striped dress that I loved. No other stripes have kept a long term place in my closet.

Recently I created a little capsule of navy, white and olive and have
been wearing those colors quite a lot. But the striped tee I had in
that capsule just wasn't the right one for me. It was navy with white
stripes but still slightly too high in contrast for my preference and
the fit was off - plus I find it distracting when a striped v-neck tee
makes the stripes fit over the bust in a sort of uneven striped way -
something about the gap in the stripe maybe?

Anyway, finally I found a summer navy and white striped tee that I think I can enjoy. It's a simple crew neck light cotton navy tee with broadly
spaced white stripes. And I really , really like it. It's preppy for
sure but for some reason summer brings out the preppy style in me and I crave simple white shirts and easy tees like this.

Just thought I'd share because it took me quite some time to figure out
what I liked/didn't like about stripes and what made perfect stripes
for me.

Here's the one I replaced and the Finds link for the new crew neck one I'm enjoying.

What makes stripes perfect (or not) for you?
