My husband and I are going to see Le Nozze di Figaro this weekend (his anniversary present to me, so sweet!). We live in a small town with a world class performing arts scene because of the University's reputation for performing arts. The Opera is one of those world-class events.
When we've gone to see plays or music shows the crowd is mixed: jeans and t-shirts for students, "dressed up" for the adults (here this varies widely, but no suits generally. Often, men fall back on their manform for lack of other choice), and then your run-of-the-mill aging hippy that we have tons of here (they tend to dress like the students or worse). The Opera, though, I don't know. The theater is beautiful, so I'm not sure whether to do dressed-up (this is not New York, keep in mind) or something else. Any thoughts? We'll probably do a late-late dinner afterwards at a local wine bar/jazz bar.
Thanks. (and bonus points if you can tell me what my husband should wear)
