I've been thinking about sandals lately as things warm up around here and I'm wonderiing what the next thing in sandals is. I've been seeing gladiators everywhere and like Angie my trendy side is ready to move on when it comes to footwear. I know caged sandals are big but they seem like part of the gladiator trend. What do you see as being fringe this year? Thanks.

I think if you are wanting to move on from gladiators you could try a fashionable pair of clogs, they are even more prevalent on the catwalk now. Have you seen Cciele's Swedish Hasbeens?

I shan't withhold my reaction to that footwear, April: They're hideous. I think I just scarred my retinas looking at those.

It looks like sandal booties are still going strong, although I still don't care for the look and don't think it makes much sense in your climate. Definitely seeing lots of wood platform cloggy type shoes. Since that made no sense, here is a visual:

Interesting that you're seeing gladiators everywhere, Patience! I was just going to post asking if they were out of style, because I haven't seen them anywhere (in stores or in magazines), except for the cage variation.

So what I've been seeing are
--cork-heeled wedges (like those Lee mentioned) and also cork-soled platforms,
--high-heeled clogs
-- slingback heels
-- flat sandals with a strap around the ankle:

I'll be wearing my Swedish Hasbeens this spring and summer (the ones Julie mentioned!), and maybe my gladiators from last year if I can get away with it.

P.S. April -- that's like wearing a tea cozy on your feet! Alas, I am not so fashion-forward

April, I saw those FP things in the catalog and I really just could not think anything.

So where to look for said clog and clog sandals? Is this a return to the 90s again? I seem to remember have a pair or two of clogs back then. Of course, I'm not interested in the next thing simply for the sake of the next thing-- I have to like them too. And I've given up platforms higher than 1/2." I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have not seen this look at all and I'm going to wrap my head around them. But I'm willing to be guided!

I also see these kind of shoes a lot online lately (at least in German shoe stores). I haven't seen anyone wear them yet so I suppose it's the still a new trend:

They've been fringe for a year already, but my hunch is that this is one trend that likely won't become mainstream. (I can only hope...)

Thank you for the help, ladies. The heel height are so tall on this style it seems! I'm afraid that now that I'm a SAHM I need to stick with more practical heights, but the Swedish Hasbeens are growing on me. They're kind of expensive though. Well, maybe I will stalk some if I can figure out the color I want.
