The Gardens in April

My mom planted a very similar tree peony when we adopted my DD from China in 2002. I'm happy to say that is survived the harsh midwestern winter and is budding (just barely).

The gorgeous blossoms and green make me hopeful for the future!

Wow, those gardens are amazing! My "garden" is a patch of dog poop from my neighbours - have to wait for the maintenance people to come by with the cleaner again

Thank you for posting the gorgeous photos!

This is all we have so far - and there is still snow on the ground - but it was enough to induce me to cut down all of the dried-out stems on the flower bed so that we can enjoy the spring flowers.

How pretty! There's not a lot happening in my Seattle garden yet. My peonies are stubby stalks at the moment. We're at the beach for a long weekend, otherwise I'd send a little something.

Ha. I just did spring garden clean up and uncovered... A few millimetres of daffodils! And some ice that was shielded from the sun by the leaves that didn't break down at all this year.

LOVE peonies! I won't see mine until late June. Adore snowdrops, but the first ones I planted never took. Planted some this past fall, and will keep my fingers crossed.

Deb, I love your garden! It's so lush with all the different shades of green. Did you design and plant it yourself? It's truly wonderful.

So far only my snowdrops and crocuses are blooming. The daffodils are poking up about 2".

Windchime, yes, I designed my garden. I started this garden 5 years ago when I moved in. I moved all of my Japanese maples and many of the large evergreens and the perennials from my other house. I was lucky to have good 'bones' to start with.

Runcarla, I love your herbaceous peonies. Mine are just at the bud stage and will not be in full bloom until next month.

Your garden is really lovely. Our peonies are still coming up, red and uncurling. When we moved here I didn't know what they were. They'll bloom next month probably. We're behind you because of our elevation (4700 feet).

Deb, your garden is just glorious, and the peonies are amazing. Sadly, I am in WI and there is little sign of spring yet. However, I did put up a new birdfeeder and a suet holder. Last year I started to notice some new and different kinds of birds, and I hope to attract them back again this year.

Oh lovely!

Spring is slow arriving this year. The cherry blossoms in DC are due to peak next week, so I'll probably head down there with my camera then. Our yard is still mostly brown with increasing amounts of green each day. Between the massive invasion of deer and the harsh winter, I fear our plantings may not be as lush as I would like. Ah well, it will just be a pleasure to have warmer weather!
