So I was meeting a friend for lunch earlier this week and we decided to quickly troll the sale racks in our favorite department store (which conveniently has an excellent little restaurant). I was attracted to what I thought was a lovely burgundy tunic but it turned out to be the now infamous Vince lemming dress. I succumbed to its undeniable charms, especially at 60% off.

I was planning to wear it tonight. I am invited to an event and have no idea what the dress code is (to the extent there are dress codes for anything anymore.) We'll be going to a cocktail party at a high rise apartment, then walking a few blocks (in 90+ degree heat according to the Weather Channel) to a performance hall to see the Twyla Tharpe 50th anniversary show. I don't know the hosts or any other guests except the friend who invited me. The dress seems the perfect bridge of dressy/casual, climate appropriate for both AC and a brief sojourn in our lovely Texas heat, etc.

BUT, once I cut the tags off, it is mine FOREVER. Now I'm getting nervous that every time I wear it, someone else will turn up in the identical item. Did they make a triple-the-normal-size run of this item? Spoff already spotted it on TV, for heaven's sake. Are any of you other "That-Dress" owners concerned about this. I'm not exactly a wildly original dresser, but do hate the thought of looking like I bought and am wearing exactly the same item as every other middle-aged woman in town.

Is anyone else concerned about this, or am I a crazy outlier?
