Team wovens or team knits? - YouLookFab Forum

I was inspired to start this thread today because I am a fence sitter today: the front of my top is woven and the back is knit I used to be more of a knit person when I joined YLF, but not exclusively--I always liked gauzy wovens for summer and I wore many Indian tunic tops from my trips to India. Actually, being Indian has made me predisposed to like wovens since almost all traditional Indian clothing is made from woven cloth, not knitted. Since joining YLF my style has become more formal and I don't even wear my basic layering-type tees that much anymore, even to layer (except under knitwear as a protective layer). I used to wear colored short-and long-sleeve Ts all the time but now I hardly do. So I'm definitely on team woven now despite my fence-sitting blouse What about you?

Edited to add: by wovens I do not mean exclusively buttondowns. I am on Team Woven but hardly wear buttondowns, especially long sleeve ones. I find the crisp buttondowns a bit too formal looking and hard to move around it. But there are plenty of soft wovens out there!

I actually love these half woven half knit tops. The front is woven and therefore better at hiding flaws and the back is knit so it is less restrictive and more comfortable.

So I am with you on the fence sitting.

I wear knits more in winter and woven more in summer.

I'm like you, moving more toward wovens. I do have one special tank that has woven layers in the front and jersey in the back. I'm reminded that I'd like to find another one since its wearing out.

Knits all the way for me too. Wovens don't fit me. I do wear denim shirts but I buy them baggy.
I basically wear a T shirt (long in the winter, 3/4 or short the rest of the year) and a topper.

I used to be wovens all year round.

In early 2015 I started buying knits. Then I became knits all year round.

I don't know any more. I'll settle somewhere. I just don't know where yet.

Firmly a fence sitter here.

I love soft wovens, I rarely wear shirts/button-downs. I am moving away in the most part from tee shirts - I have not added one at all this summer, and think they will be a minor player in the wardrobe from now on. But I love other knits and layer with knits in the winter.

I could never choose. I love a good OCBD, but I also love my graphic tees and breton tops. Flannel and chambray are two other wovens I couldn't live without. Knits are easy, but wovens last.

FWIW, I'm also a dog person and a cat person. Don't make me choose!

Being Indian myself, I have worn my fair share of wovens. I still do, but only when I'm going out. The short kurti style tops are still very comfy in humid weather, but I'd say I've made a conscious move towards knits. I find them way more comfortable for all day wear, and have some really amazing tops that are comfortably dressy (not t-shirt like) with good drape, pretty prints and a relaxed fit that's not at all restrictive.

PS: I work from home, live with 2 dogs and lead a highly active lifestyle. This, i like my everyday clothes to look polished but be 100% comfortable & easy to wash. If I had to goto office, I'd probably wear wovens all the time too.

The majority of my non-t-shirt, non-sweater tops are wovens. However, I do wear sweaters and tees quite a lot! And my heart has to go with Team Knits; I buy woven pieces for the polish but I would love them even more if they had the comfort of a knit.

If we're counting sweaters as well as regular tshirt/jersey knits, my knit tops probably slightly edge out my woven ones. I agree with others that it's pretty seasonal, too. I wear wovens alone more in the warmer months, or layered with sweaters when it's cold. I wear jersey tops in the spring and fall, but not that often in the summer, not breezy enough. It occurs to me, actually, that if I'm wearing multiple layers that usually one is knit and one is woven - knit top under a woven blazer, woven shirt under a sweater knit cardigan. Huh.

Knits. knits and the occasional woven for me. Comfort plus lack of need for ironing mean that knits tend to win more often than not.

I love soft woven shirts, especially silk. I don't wear t shirts much and when I do, I don't feel like me. But I need to wear knit sweaters in the winter with Uniqlo long sleeve heattech under or woven shirts. I would say I am clearly on the Team Woven!
