In for the answers as I am struggling with mine. (Mine are the slouchy/silky tapered trousers)
I took a good long look in the mirror with mine on to figure out what was bugging me with them and did decide that I needed to take up the hem a little. I like how loose they are in the leg, but to have any bunching/pooling at the bottom of the pant made it a little sloppy.
For tops, I had success with longer cropped tops (the waist on my trousers are a bit higher, so these "cropped" tops showed no skin), and a hi/low top. The high/low top outfit especially necessitated high heels as the volume on volume look over-emphasized my shortness when done with flats. A semi-tuck worked with the right top, but I found myself fussing with those a lot - there are some angled zippers on the pants that I really didn't want covered with shirt fabric.
Is there any banding at the bottom of your tapered pants? I ask because if it could be pushed up the calf a little it might look smart with booties.
Pictures would go a long way with helping address your problems :).
