Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Talbots order, part 2 - dresses, sweater, jackets

This is the second half of my huge Talbots order. Please be critical because I don't want to spend the money on items that aren't fab.

These items are in the second half of the album.

1. Red dot-print dress

I really, really wanted this dress to work, but the fit seems off. It's too tight through the chest and has weird wrinkles in the back. Tell me I have to return it.

2. Jersey dot-print dress

This dress seems very flattering. I quite like how it looked on me. On the other hand, I already have a polka-dot dress:

And how many polka-dot dresses do I really need? I could keep it and indulge my polka-dot obsession, or it is also available in solid colors so I could exchange.

3. Red cardigan

http://s605.photobucket.com/al.....MG1739.jpg
This seems too big in some places but also gets wrinkles over the bust. Return?

4. Tweed jacket

This jacket is making me insane because it looked so great in the Talbots look book and doesn't look great at all on me. Maybe it's too big? I could try a smaller size.

5. Dot-print jacket

I'm afraid the fit is bad on this one, it's both too tight in the shoulders/chest and too boxy and loose in the waist. I'm thinking return.

The jersey dot print dress looks wonderful on you! It's completely different than the one you already own...so I'm justifying it. It's more swishy and girly. Love it! You look great in dots! :o)

I have been coveting that tweed jacket! I think it fits you fine. I'm used to seeing you in sleeker items, and this is a boxier shape. It's different but not in a bad way. I think it would look great with denim on the bottom...skinny jeans and tall boots, a denim pencil skirt, bootcuts, etc. I think it's distracting with the pants in the picture.

I also think the dot print jacket looks good on you.

The red cardigan looks fine to me. Have you tried it unbuttoned or with just a couple of the middle buttons done? I like it with the girly blouse! Fun combination.

The first dress is a fun print, but I like the jersey dots better.

That's just my 2 cents. So glad you are beginning to feel better!

I'm thinking you are spot on with everything on this batch of clothes! Our inner instincts tell us all!

You have great instincts about what works for you. I love the dot dress and feel it is different enough from the dot dress you already have to justify having another. The dot jacket is very cute. Maybe dots are you sigiture thing? I would consider having that jacket tailored for the best fit. Same goes for the twead jacket. It is gorgeous and a few tweeks could make it a jacket you'll have forever. You have great taste. I love these Talbots pieces. You really chose well.

KILLER tweed jacket! Where is it ill fitting, Medusa? I adore it with the checked pants! FABULOUS.

Love the red cardigan and the red dot dress too. The polka dot jacket is equally adorable. I’m not as sold on the black and white polka dot dress. Swap out the belt?

Hmm, I actually like everything on you, and I think that the two polka-dot dresses are very different. I vote to keep everything. I guess I am not of much help :)

I vote to keep the tweed jacket, the red cardigan and the polka dot dress, as Angie suggested try the dress with a different belt!

Wow! This has made me refocus on Talbots, for sure. It's been so long since I've shopped there that I completely forgot what type of clothes they have.

I don't like the neckline on the first dress..
dress 2, seems too grown up for you..
The red jacket... Fabulous!
Love both jackets!
I would love to see the tweed jacket with dark denin jeans and pearls!

I pretty much agreed with your assessment on everything! I really like the dot dress on you a lot, but I think I would probably exchange it for a solid instead. I agree that it's different than your other polka dotted dress, but they are still similar, particularly in color and size of the dots.

I would also try the tweed jacket in a smaller size. The current one looks boxy to me, so I think you could do better.

I would return the rest, although I would consider tailoring the polka dotted jacket.

Why not make dots your signature? They are fun and seem like a false plain when they aren't too large because they are easy to pair with other prints.
I liked the tweed jacket, dot jacket and red cardigan too, but you need to get only what you feel confident wearing.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Your comments made me reconsider the tweed jacket. It is a more boxy style, which I am less used to. Boof, I think your comment was spot on - wearing it with the wide-leg trousers made it look weird. I tried it again with jeans and a turtleneck, and it looks much better:

I'm going to keep it for now and think about it.

Oooh, Medusa! I love the tweed jacket with the jeans! It shows off your great lean figure. However, if Angie says it's great with the trousers, you should give that a whirl too. That's some serious pattern mixing and a look that my eye needs some time to adjust to. :o)
