Sweater over shirt: Do any of these work?

I have been watching all the threads on this trend, not really thinking I'd try it myself because I didn't have any cropped sweaters. Then yesterday I bought this one from J Jill (Finds not enabled):

It is very wide and boxy and could use something under it for security. They show it with a long white T, which I like but don't have. Before I buy it I thought I'd try and see if I have something already that might work.

It isn't quite the trend...you all have been doing this with sweaters that are more cropped and more fitted. With this one it is only kind of short...shirt tails just peak out, don't really show that much. On all of them they show more in the back though. I just wonder if any of these work.

I don't think 3 works...not enough color contrast. And the sleeves of 4 are meant to be worn rolled up. Down, they are a bit too long...which just never happens on me!

I like #2. I think what bothers me about #1 and #3 is that your shirt has no collar. That somehow looks off to me.

This is such a beautiful shade of red on you, Peri, and I really like the oversized fit of this pullover. I wouldn't call this a cropped sweater, but I also love non-cropped sweaters layered over blouses and shirts, so big thumbs up from me.

Here are my two cents:
1) Love the sweater with the pattern and colours of that beautiful blouse underneath. Under this neckline I usually prefer a "full-collared" shirt, but to my eye the blouse collar works too.
2) Perfect. What a fun heart print + the graphic black and white is fantastic with the red, and with your hair and complexion.
3) I really like this lower colour contrast look too, and don't really mind the two necklines together. It's more casual than a button-down collar, but the fun pattern peeking out from under the sweater makes me smile.
4) I don't see anything wrong with the sleeve-length of the white button-down. Fab look!

I think you have got yourself a winner here, Peri;-)

I love the color on you. I think it would look good with a turtleneck but this may not be what you are going for.

Love #2. The black and white heart print is fantastic. It makes the red pop and I like how it plays with your black pants. I too prefer a collared shirt for the layered look.

Thanks! For more than just these answers...I really feel like I'm learning! Pre-YLF I never would have thought to put any of this together. Watching everyone be so creative has opened me up to trying different combos.

I may still go back and get the white T because I did like that look and it wasn't very pricey.

Astrid, I think #2 is my favorite too. I don't mind #1 at all though...the store look with the white T doesn't have a collar either. I know the trend is collar, but I think this isn't quite the trend on other levels too so that's okay.

#2 looked the best to my eye.

Something about the sleeves and collar on the others don't quite feel right.

I liked 2 and 4 best! I think the shirt sleeves look fine as you have it in 4, but I think you could also cuff it for another option! Applause applause for trying this fun new trend! Its one of my favorite looks this fall now that I have the right shirt!

This red is stunning on you. I love #2 the best. I think it will also work over a tee or a cami -- and you can add one of your beautiful scarves if you like.

That beautiful red sweater with its fluid fit looks amazing on you! Red and white is an unbeatable combination, and I'm sure the sweater will look great with the white tee shirt. I really like #2 and #3 here and also think #1 works well, even though the blouse doesn't have a conventional collar.

What a lovely sweater! Gorgeous rich color, looks fab on you. I think #2 and #4 work really well. #1 and #3 are more arty looks, which also work, but I like the more graphic quality of the other two more. I do like the lower layer sleeves left long in all the options, but would prefer them rolled up higher in #4 (the arm holding the camera shows no sleeve, and that looks a bit more streamlined to my eye).

Another vote for #2, with #4 a close second. I personally don't think the collarless blouses do it justice. But I bet a tee would also be great... I know it's also collarless, but they don't look like they are trying, are a totally different vibe. I do love this colour on you. And I like the fit of the sweater as well.

I'm with you on the love for #4 almost, but it isn't quite the right white shirt. Which goes back to my "everything statement" problem on another thread. I don't own a basic white shirt. I bought that one because it was "a step up"...the artsy white shirt. But a basic one would be a lot more useful I think. Hmmm.

Anyway, thanks, I will wear #2 asap!

I like all of them! Very different looks, yet all of them work really nicely, to my eye.

The black and white is my fave too. I think the lack of structure in the sweater calls for a collar. But I am still struggling with this look too!

I find this silhouette very appealing! How clever to have paired this flowing sweater with flowing, delicate blouses. Colour combinations are also a dream.
