Sunday Best - Please rate my style!

Here's what I wore to church this morning -

Black leather jacket - Marc New York (Andrew Marc)
Plaid skirt - Ann Taylor
Black heels - Circa Joan & David
Purple chronograph watch - Fossil
Specs - Jai Kudo

This is a typical outfit for me in that I put on the bare minimum and then stop. If not for YLF, I would be sans interesting eyeglasses and watch!

Just as a note of interest - the leather jacket is getting close to 10 years old...and does anyone recognize that skirt? I want to say it's pretty old, too - but it's semi-casual, so it could be "only" 6 years old? I tended to shop at AT more when I was working, which was around 6 years ago. Both are in fabulous condition, so I hope they're good styles for me.

I would also love feedback on how to layer, add accessories, vary the outfit, etc.

My ideas are:

-- actually, that wasn't what I had in mind, but I did think it was funny it popped up, considering I'm working on an outfit for church (the artist named the pendant "divine intervention" ha ha)

Lovely! I especially love it without the jacket -- your figure is sensational! Great skirt, it doesn't look dated at all. I recently tried on something very similar! You look great in a turtleneck. How about some pearls?

Have you considered a leather or pleather moto style jacket? Might be fun update to add to your jacket collection and it would look great on you!

I definitely think some textured hose would be fun and a skinny belt would look great too. You could try putting a flower pin on the belt like Danja and Tanya have done! There are endless ways to accessorize this outfit!

I don't know CRS so I'm no help there!

Ha - this outfit probably does not even make it on the scale anyway, it's so basic!

Love your ideas - would you mind linking to a moto style jacket or two that you think might work? (So I know I'm on the right track.)

but it's not as flexible as a separate skinny belt and flower pin.

I'm very interested in adding accessories, so I can start really having fun with outfits.

There are tons of moto style jackets in stores right now. I've been wearing mine all the time. It's hip, updated, and still totally practical. I'm a fan.

As for flower pins, you can get them anywhere! I have one from Nordstrom Rack and one from NY & Company... the NY&C one was only $2! Any place that sells accessories should have flower pins!

Great skirt. I second the moto-jacket idea.

Another idea is to pair this skirt/turtleneck with riding boots (and tights) and denim jacket.

Your hair style is really good for statement earring. It lights up and frames your face.

I really like it in the blue color...but I guess black is the safer (better?) choice? Definitely something I need to try on in person. I really prefer ones with princess seams - I don't like boxy on me very much.

Mmm, those two are very yummy! Blue is great, but I suppose black does go with more? I guess that could be debatable. I could see you getting a lot of use out of the blue as well.

I haven’t read any of the other comments MPJ, but your outfit rates KILLER (a 10) WITHOUT the leather jacket! You look fabulous. You need a short, cheeky jacket with this outfit. Or, a soft BF blazer. How old is that leather jacket?

Angie - the jacket is probably 8-10 years old. Does it look dated? I know that other YLFers have been posting some great BF jackets - but do you have one or two in mind that would suit my shape? I'm a long waisted hourglass. I would love a fine pinstripe, but I'm open to anything.

Presumably the wool would be a bit warming. What's the verdict on contrast lining again? Is that a go or no-go?

The leather jacket does look dated I’m afraid – and not quite at the stage of being retro yet either. :0(. I vote pass on.

Take yourself off to Express for BF blazers. Contrast lining is more casual and lots of fun. I chose self-coloured lining because my lifestyle is a little dressier than yours.

I just want to say that I LOVE your plaid skirt. The fit is gorgeous on you. How great to have something in perfect condition and still fitting wonderfully after 6 years. I also love the etsy pendants that you linked to.

I hope you'll let us know how you fare in your search for a boyfriend blazer! I haven't found one I like on myself just yet.

I'm torn on the blazer - it looks like you only wear it with short sleeves? (Or you scrunch up your long sleeved shirt along with the blazer sleeve?) I think I'm probably better off going with a leather moto jacket, especially if I'm retiring (*sob*) my old one.

MPJ, I love the dress and turtleneck, but agree with Angie on the jacket. I am also a long waisted hourglass and I think our figures are a little similar, though yours is taller and thinner.
On that basis I would really recommend a cropped moto jacket. Mine is old and only pleather (which doesn't matter because I live in warmer Australia) but I wear it all the time, especially with skirts. Here is a pic.

Most of my thoughts have already been expressed, but have you tried a scarf with this outfit? As for a flower skinny belt, you might try a flower pin attached to a narrow belt. I found my pins on sale at Macys and inexpensive belts to try at Forever 21 last spring.

mamapj- regarding your comment about wearing short sleeves with blazer or pushing the sleeves up-- I think it is really cute to have long sleeves under a shorter sleeve or scrunch sleeve blazer. So no, you shoudn't have to limit your sleeve selection.
