Yay, I hope we end up being hat twins! It's really a great hat. The lady who sold it to me told me it also fit a wider range of head sizes (I'd been complaining about how most hats in the us were too small for me) because the straw was more flexible than most. I think it also stays on better while doing things than my other hat, which is a striped wide brim hat like Tanya's (but with bigger stripes).

And great price too! I think I paid around £25 for mine 2 years ago.

Re: packing. I have packed it flat in a suitcase - the crown kind of collapses down with no trouble - or I slide it sideways into a tote bag. The brim is wired so it holds its shape and can be reshaped if it gets bent.

Suz, I looked around a bit after I bought it and could not find anywhere in the US that carries seeberger. Let me know if you find a us/can source!

Ha Ledonna, is that a serious suggestion? That is so not me...

Diana, that sounds great. I do hope it works out so that we'll be hat twins. The reviews suggested the size might work well for my head. It probably won't be here before next week, but I'll keep you all up-to-date.

Okay so the hat arrived and it's A LOT of hat. At least for me as someone not being used to hats. And the pink is very loud. It doesn't look bad on me, but I think I want something a bit more toned down for dipping my toes in. The quality is great though and I can imagine it would be comfortable in the heat. I think I'm going to try another one from the same make with a smaller brim, in taupe.

The coulour is very flattering... But it *is* really pink. Not quite you, I agree.

My only thought is, if you're looking for sun protection, you need a fair amount of brim...

Mmm, I like it Astrid actually, how does the crown fit ?

you might want the wide brim for sun protection, and the colour won't seem so loud in the sun. And the hat may seem less of hat with sunglasses (don't know what your sunglasses look like, but sunnies tend to be bigger than eyeglasses).
Also I've read it's packable : awesome.

So I wait to see it styled with sunnies, flip flops and bikini for final decision...no, I'm not serious

Thanks Rachylou, I'm glad to hear my instincts were right. I not necessarily need my whole face covered, with the kind of weather I'm expecting I usually keep in the shade as much as possible and also wear really high SPF sunscreen. It's more not getting sunburned on my scalp...

Thanks Skylurker! You're right that the pink looks different in the sun, but it will always be quite loud next to all of my clothes. I want to wear this walking around, not only on the beach or next to the pool. And I usually favour more toned down looks. I tried it with my sun glasses, but they aren't bigger than the specs I'm wearing in the picture because they're prescription glasses. Agree that packable is awesome, the other one is too! I definitely want packable.

You look adorable, but you have to really be one with the hat to pull it off. I wear ball caps at races and the beach and I think you could look cute with the right one, but one either is a ball cap person or isn't.

Yes, I think you're right - either it works or it doesn't. Maybe I'll try the department stores next after all, that way I can just try some things on to get a better feel before I order anything else online. Maybe I'll even find something there? I'll keep you all up-to-date.

Do you have thrift stores near you? The one I volunteer at had a couple of hats yesterday like you're wanting, for under $5.

aaah, yeah...I forgot Germans spend their holidays hiking mountains in Birkenstocks, not lying in the sun

A collapsible cowgirl hat would be the most versatile option, I think, they can go anywhere : beach, city, country.

I've seen people wear a floppy straw beach hat with a pixie cut and glasses and it looks super cute! A straw fedora would also work.

Love your hat Astrid! This is exactly the hat that I would choose. Great colour. Enjoy!

It's super cute on you but I see the issue. Good idea to compare it with one of the others. Good luck!!

Jaileen, not really. I mean we have thrift stores here, but not the nice ones you seem to have. Or they are the kind to stock trendy stuff and known brands and those are always really overpriced.

Skylurker, LOL. Now I just had to go searching for the picture below, me in my Birkenstock sandals enjoying the mountain scenery on Mallorca. I'll see what I can find in the stores.

Thanks Sochi602 - I think I'd prefer the fedora to the floppy hat!

Thanks Jane, although I'm not keeping that one! Just wanted to show a picture because it was Diana's recommendation.

Thanks Suz.

Exactly how I pictured it, looking adorable and energetic
Good luck on your hat search.

I had a pink hat, in a similar size. It always felt a bit loud for me, So I gave it to my niece. I really like the hat in your second pic. I hope it works for you!

Quick update - I tried the other hat I posted above in a department store and it was way too small. Strange, because it was the same size as the pink one! I now have another one on order from Amazon, also by Seeberger. It's a Fedora and it's supposed to be squishable so you can take it in a bag. I hope this one fits!

Hope it works out, looks like the perfect holiday hat.

Sadly the Fedora didn't work, it just didn't fit. Seems like I need some height in my hats... I ordered another one made out of the same material again, because that was really lovely. I'm basically back to the bucket hat I was joking about in the beginning... This is a cloche. Not the most stylish option, but it would pack down really small, so that's good. And the price was right. Now it just needs to fit. Third time's the charm?

Blast, I really liked the look of the fedora.
Let's hope you have more luck with cloches, then!

Thanks. And I really liked the idea of that Fedora for me too, I think it would have been a great hat with my style... Too bad.

This one didn't work out either, much too small again. Maybe I should look for a men's hat instead. Anyway, I think I'm not going to place another online order, I need to give the departement stores a try so that I can pick a good fit, even if that's more expensive.

Yeah, ok, definitely sounds you need to try in b&m stores until you know your size and the best shape for you.

Don't you have sales in Germany now ? It's started here.

Also, I'm not into fast fashion for clothes, but it might be a good place to look to find an inexpensive and cute accessory like a Summer hat.

Well I did measure my head and read descriptions, but they were all over the place regardless....

And yes, there are some sales going on. I might have a look tomorrow.
