Summer hat: am I nuts?

Am I crazy to wonder if I could pull off a cloche for a summer hat? I keep looking at this: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=645972002

I can't decide if I've just been admiring the vintage-inspired outfits on http://allthishappiness.blogspot.com/ too much, or if I could actually pull off a hat for summer.

I definitely like the idea of minimizing sun exposure since I'm fair and some of my meds make me even more prone to burning on my face, but I wonder if I'd be able to wear hats successfully without looking frumpy, out of place, or like I was trying too hard.

Anyway, I remember some others were looking at summer hat options, so I wanted to point out that Banana Republic has this cloche as well as some fedoras on sale right now.

I think the hat is adorable, and guarding your face from the sun is always practical. I don't think it would look odd or like you were trying to hard. Something I do wonder about hats in the summer--it seems like they might make everything way too hot. I have never really done hats in the summer, so I'm currently thinking about getting a summer hat, and the heat is my concern.

Kari, I've tried this hat and it didn't work for me at all. It looked squished on me, neither here nor there. Totally not like other cloche shapes I've seen and tried. But that's my own experience with it. It doesn't hurt to try.

I'm all for summer hats. I'm very paranoid about sun exposure, even with sunscreen on. Plus I already had some skin problems.

I recently discovered this company http://www.sandiegohat.com/cat.....Path=29_28 Hmm, they have more options in stores, if you find a retailer that carries them.

Looks like we'll be seeing lots of hats this season, there should be plenty of cute options.

Steph, I have a wide brimmed woven hat (not from straw, some kind of straw like polyester material that's rated with UPF 50 protection. Yes, I'm paranoid :) ). I don't sweat in it at all. I do sweat in my BR cotton fedora and my gear cotton/nylon hat (similar to this http://www.coolibar.com/02525w.html also UPF 50; I use it for hiking and etc)

Steph, I'm actually not worried about being too hot - I live in the Seattle area, and we really only get a month (if that) of HOT weather.

Lena, thanks for the feedback about the hat. I'll see if my local BR has any in stock (doubtful) that I can try, or else I'll keep my eye out for something similar, especially since it sounds like they may be more prevalent this year. I'd hate to order one online and then find that it looked awful!

Thumbs up from me.

I would not hesitate to wear that hat. In fact, I want one right now.

Oh Kari, that is adorable! I don't remember seeing it in the stores at all. BR hats never fit me right (other than the wool ones). I would definitely try it on if you can.

Kari, Talbots also has some woven cloche hats. http://www1.talbots.com/talbot.....A&sk=A

Shana, my local BR did not carry the cloche in store, but they did have the fedoras. They seem like they would be a cute summer hat but aren't really my style.

Lena, thanks for the tip-off on Talbots! I like this one:

Maya, I am just drooling over that lilac one with the bow. I may have to try it out. Thanks for the links!

Ooh, I like these UO ones. Thanks, Maya.

Kari, I tried the one you picked out. How I wish it came in another color. Oh well. I think we'll see more of these this summer. I'm going to stock up when the sales start.
