Styling Annagybe's sweater dress

Anna very generously sent me this H&M gray sweater dress. The neckline has a pattern that is somehow in between a traditional Fair Isle and a tribal/Southwestern one, and it's quite comfy, so I am game to give it a go!

I have styled it a few ways; I see it working for a casual lunch, meetings at work, etc. What are your frank thoughts, discerning YLFers :)?

#1: Straightforward, with a black turtleneck, black leggings, and my tall, dark, and handsome new black boots.

#2: Same, but with my slouchy black boots.

#3: With a striped top underneath, red leans, and black wedge booties. If I were wearing this out, I would add some colorful arm candy to tie in with the red jeans.

#4: With a dark denim button down, sleeves scrunched, dark denim skinnies, and my gray buckle boots.

Yipee!!! I'm surprising myself and liking the #3 the best. Also realizing how much taller you are than me. #1 and #2 are good if you want to be a bit more conservative.

I like #2 and #3. the slouch of the boots and the scrunch in the pants both help to balance it.

Wow! I think these all work - my least favorite is #4 (button-down poisoned eye!). Yay Anna!

I love 3 and 4--- 1 and 2 are ok, but the edgier looks really play it up nicely.

Yeah, Anna! I do love these happy YLF stories. This sweater dress seems like a great fit with your wardrobe. I like 2 and 3 the best, and they are terrific. I'm not sure why the button-down isn't working for me, because I am definitely on Team Button-Down. I do like the jeans and the boots, so maybe a different shirt underneath would improve things. It's something about the neckline - I like the t-neck and the scoop neck in the others. Anyway, the dress is a GREAT addition. You look fab as always.

Anna, yes, I'm guessing I have several inches on you (I'm 5'11"). Did it come to your knee when you had it?

I see what you are seeing with the scrunch balancing out the waist-surrendering-ness of the dress, Malina and Vildy. I noticed that too! Long live the scrunch!

Una, I'm surprised to hear you direct your poison eye at a denim shirt :). I could have sworn you were stalking one at one point, after seeing Fernanda rock hers...Did something happen to make you shun the denim shirt?

Sarah, nice to see you! Thanks for your thoughts re. the buttoned up shirt. It does seem to be a bit, er, polarizing :). Is your semester starting off as wacky as mine is?! Why does everyone want to set up a meeting during the first few weeks of the semester? Sheer nuttiness.

I'm 5'7" so not a shortie but not as statuesque as you. I recently had my height remeasured lost an inch somewhere. If I remember correctly it came to just above my knee. I think I only wore it a grand total of 2 times.

Cute! I like #2 the best, but I'm a neutrals girl. I also really like it in #4 with the skinnies - not as sure about the shirt in 4, but I love the skinnies and the boots. I'm thinking that the skinnies in #4 with the shirt and boots in #2 would be a great combo also.

Jonesy- if I have to fill out another doodle poll I'm going to scream! But I submitted a proposal and a manuscript this week, so I managed to cross some huge things off of my still-too-long list. That felt good. I hope your classes are off to a good start with classes (ours don't start until next week). Most everyone else likes the button-down, so don't mind me!

Sarah, super congrats on getting a proposal *and* a MS out the door in one week! What a week! I started teaching yesterday--5 hours in the classroom with 2 back-to-back long classes :(. I don't think it's just you about the buttoned up shirt--lots of people don't care for that look, which is okay, of course!

Five hours! PHEW! Good thing you're such a smart dresser - maybe it will distract the students from your haggard face and hoarse voice by the fifth hour...good luck with that!

Amazing, Jonesy! I'm totally speechless over your black boots--both pairs are perfection. I think they pair so well with the tunic. Love the look with the red leans but the denim shirt/denim leans totally send me into orbit. That one is my fave! GREAT to see you post!

All these options are wonderful in my books. I do like #3 with the red on bottom and the striped t - just unexpected and fun. And #4 with the denim shirt is great, too. Picks up the blue in the jeans perfectly.

3 is my favorite. I also like #4 and #2. Somehow I prefer the shorter boots in #2 than the tall boots, when worn as a dress. Could you do #2 but with the patterned top in #3 underneath? That may spice it up a bit. The top in #3 is perfect for this dress as the neckline doesn't compete.
