Confession: This is the exact same dress that Kate wore earlier this year in India. It's really an unusual piece, a maxi dress with a full skirt, fitted waist, and long sleeves. It's from the UK brand Glamorous, and though not pricey, not something I would spend on a whim.

Until I saw it on clearance at ASOS, with sizes selling out.

I love this dress! The traditional print is great, and it combines two of my staple colors, red navy. The flow of the skirt is just lovely. It's lightweight but not sheer, good for A/C. I did make a couple alterations, such as taking a couple inches out of the waist at the backing.

It's true I never would have bought the dress if I hadn't seen the Duchess wearing it. First because I wouldn't know it existed. But also because the model picture shows it does indeed lace closed in front. Not my style! And I wouldn't take the chance of ordering to see if I could make it work. But seeing it on Kate, the flow and cut were very attractive, and the lacing was adaptable. I hand stitched it together between the lacing, and it's good to go!

The irony is that this, my first imitation of proclaimed style icon Kate, is in line with her boho side. And I don't do boho! But this works perfectly with my fit and color priorities, so I'm satisfied. I also paired it with refined pointy-toe ankle strap heels; that height shows off the length and handkerchief hem.

Pictures 1-4 are me, doing my best with a narrow (and dirty! yikes!) mirror. Picture 5 is the Duchess. She added a plain navy belt, and may have evened up the hem.
